I've had an idea for a while about a series revolving around a hardboiled Chicago homicide detective. I've been thinking of it as the third season of True Detective, which I'm a huge fan of (the first season, at least). The character in question is certainly unorthodox; with many personal issues and a something between a fascination and a lust for violence. Along with his old-school techniques of policing, I imagined him with some old-school cannons.
His main sidearm is a Para-Ordance P13 compact double-stack 1911 automatic in the .45 ACP. The gun, like him, is old-school but reliable. This weapon is carried on his right hip along with numerous magazines, and he is very capable with it.
The second weapon is a Smith & Wesson Model 29 .44 Magnum; Dirty Harry's famous gun, only this one had a 4-inch barrel and ivory grips, along with an unfluted cylinder for taking high-powered loads. He uses this gun as a longer-range sidearm, despite the short barrel, and carried it in a shoulder rig. It's worth noting that his carrying of this weapon is probably against police regulation.
