Spore is probably my favorite game of all time (Yes, even being somewhat of a flop) and the cell stage is my favorite part!

There is actually a symbolic Spore successor that solely relies on the waterphase now (Evolution VR). I wouldn't propose it though, just mention.
I personally liked the idea of the space stage, sadly Maxis was unable to focus on ANY phase properly to create interesting gameplay. And the one you will play the longest (Space) in theory is not really good in the end. Especially compared to other space sims at the time. So in conclusion the water and creature phase of the game are its stronger points, sadly. Space is roughly even with the creature phase.
I guess the same reason that made the waterphase so interesting to many is the same idea that is part of the many .io games right now. There's always a bigger fish.

Yeah, I saw that Evolution VR. Even though it looks kinda potatoey, it's nice to see that people still like Spore's cell stage... or at least its idea I suppose.
I also think that the Spore gameplay could be much more expanded and improved than the final release, but what is the best for me are the really nice creators, I think I spent most of my gameplay time on them. The space stage indeed gets repetitive fast, but at least the galatic expansion was nice and helped to make a bit better. Too bad that the better quests end extremely quick and then you're left with the horrible crapfests uploaded by lazy players.
And the aquatic part is nice, I really like it's simple gameplay, even if it is really easy and exploitable and has a quite limited editor. But what I like the cell stage the most is the felling of helplessness that it gives. Nowhere is safe, the gigantic cells on the background give an unsettling atmosphere and you can always find a giant predator when you less expect. That combined with a somewhat funny and cartoony aspect of the creatures; all this made this stage the most enjoyable for me.
I really wish I could find a similar game to this stage, but the closest one I found was the own Spore mobile game that does not exist anymore. FlOw is just too easy and there's no challenge at all and those .io games are really potatoey in my opnion.
Meh, I will have to wait for the release of Spore 2 at the year 3017!

I don't know, my favorite part of Spore as the Industrial Stage wear you're at war with other nations. Nice piece of the Cell Stage though :3
