Description
As the text above states, the Left side is Sonic as of Sonic Heroes, the Right is Sonic as of Sonic Genesis, the mod the Sonic Mapping Team is working on. This is to show how much work we've put into the model for the past year and a half.Related content

Woah. That is really impressive. Very nice work, guys. It's easy to see how much work you've put into this. Hope it turns out great!

Well, I didn't do the modeling, someone else did. I just do the texturing. I use 3D studio max 8 to work with them.

Ripping models is a lot easier than making one, plus it ensures that it looks awesome. Sonic Revolution is using the Sonic Heroes model as a base for the Sonic model as well, so we can edit it, fix it, and even change it around a bit.

I would argue that 1- Sonic Heroes models suck ass XD and 2- people are more likely to appreciate original models 'cuz it shows that some real effort is being put into it. Even if the models arendeed of lower quality than the SH models (which is hard to accomplish), it deserves higher merits

lol, good point. We've actually switched to the Sonic Adventure 2 model because of technical difficulties. But...yeah, that's true, although at the same time, some of the best 2D fan-games used ripped sprites, I don't see what's so different about using edited models, so long as you give credit and do a degree of editing to it (and pretty much everything else is original).

Well, some of us weren't that experienced (like myself) at making models from scratch...

well... how do they expect to get any experience if they don't bother trying?

Well, I myself have tried... but I've never been taught properly.. I have to learn from someone hands on.. they just can't tell me how to do it...
However it doesn't matter anymore, the mod's been shut down by our leader... so.. *Shrug*

aw, well that sucks. But anyway, if you ever actually wanna get good. Don't play with other people's models. Trust me, I have not had any form of instruction on any of my 3D and I'm currently one of the most well known Sonic 3D artist, and it's mainly 'cuz I've made my own, sometimes topping even Sonic Team's model (according to people, but I don't think so) and 'cuz I always giving my best without flinching. If you're really serious about doing 3D then that's what you really need. Most people end up dropping it after a while 'cuz it's way too much work.... way too much damn f*ing work.... but like I said, if you're really serious about it, you'll get past that barrier ^^

You think you might be able to help me out sometime? I'd really love to learn how to model, and especially rig... I just can't seem to get it right, really.... Don't ask me how you could help.. maybe point me to some really good tutorials, or explain it to me yourself, I dunno. Anyways, thanks for the advice, really.

well, there aren't any tutorials out there I consider helpful. And I'm not really that good of a teacher. the best thing to do really, is to experiment yourself with the tools, it'll come to ya with time

I haven't found 3Dsmax to be very easy.
