Team Duck & Cover
Written App: [link]
Skeet (Ducklett)
Age: Late adolescent (late teens)
Gender: Male
Ability: Keen Eye -- Skeet has a knack for discernment of visual cues that keeps him aware of his surroundings, even through obscurity.
Moves:
Gust - Skeet flaps his wings to whip up a moderately powerful gust of wind.
Defog - A variation of Gust used to clear obstacles and disperse mists.
Water Pulse - A strong pulse of water shoots from Skeet's flapping wings that may disorient its target.
Rain Dance - Skeet notes the current weather conditions and adds Water Pulses as necessary to the clouds through dance rhythmic precision.
Equipped:
-- Template Hat (dark blue)
--
--
Personality: A bit of a nervous Numel, Skeet finds himself in a constant struggle between projecting surefooted confidence and stifling his insecure realism. Having never been entirely comfortable in his own skin, he tends to shrink from regular socializing into more introverted pursuits, such as various collections and studies. He's a natural worrier, but having two outspoken, self-assured parents, he feels a lot of pressure to be sure of everything he does (and a lot of this pressure is self-inflicted).
He tends to go with his gut when making decisions, but ends up analyzing those decisions afterwards to see if they were really good ones to make, resulting in a lot of anxious regret when things don't go exactly right. Thankfully, he's a bit of a quick learner, and picks up on social cues decently enough to know how he's supposed to act to seem confident, but so far the mask of conviction isn't all that convincing.
History: Skeet was born and raised an Andalusst native, just like his mother, and had a rather comfortable chickhood with his family. His mother was a gregarious dancer on the social scene and his father was a worldly carrier Pidgeot celebrated as one of the finest aviators in the region, but Skeet never quite developed an outgoing personality like they had, instead preferring the quiet company of himself over other rowdy kids. His parents paid no mind to it, though, and encouraged each of the several interests he flitted between as he grew older -- as they impressed on him, all that mattered was that he had confidence in whatever he did.
Confidence, however, didn't come easily to Skeet, as with all the trial and error, he couldn't find anything he excelled in quite like his parents did in their respective fields. He started to try on his parents' roles, taking dance lessons from his mother and flight training with his father. It was his father who impressed on him a sort of civic-mindedness that led to his starting a paper route, and it was his father who told him of his plans to find a way to traverse the Fog without having to rely on expeditions through Mystery Dungeons. It was a pipe dream at best at the time, but like with everything else his father pursued, it was something he was confident in.
Then one day his father never came home.
The next few years were tough for Skeet and his mother as they struggled with not knowing exactly what had become of him. His mother retired from performances so that she could be home more with her son, and instead settled on becoming an instructor, while Skeet dedicated himself to the task his father left behind, throwing himself into meteorological studies and honing his Defogging skills. His paper route eventually became a mail couriership, as he was intent on following in his father's footsteps, and one day while on his route he met a Shuckle coming out of the Fog. This Shuckle and his unknown origins reignited a fire in him, and he decided to join a Guild to uncover some answers to the Fog so that no one else would be lost to it.
--
"Guy" (Shuckle)
Age: Adult (late twenties)
Gender: Male
Ability: Contrary -- A natural enigma, Guy sort of lives to defy expectations, and somehow takes on the opposite effects of moves intended to change his stats.
Moves:
Mud-Slap - Guy gathers a glob of dirt or mud and smacks it into the eyes of a target to impair their vision.
Power Trick - Through some force of will, Guy's extremities become harder than his rock shell to deal devastating blows, but his shell softens considerably as a trade-off. (This is just as easily reversible.)
Shell Smash - Due to Contrary's influence, instead of his shell smashing apart, instead his shell expands and builds itself stronger, reducing his maneuverability.
Gyro Ball - Guy withdraws into his shell, starting at a slow roll, but eventually building to a speed to match his opponent's before ramming into them.
Equipped:
--
--
--
Personality: Guy is something an enigma. He gives nothing of his mental process away to outside viewers, and his expression is constantly in a neutral arrangement. Only speaking rarely, and in soft monotone, it is nearly impossible to get a read on him, much less get information out of him, which makes it exceedingly difficult for most to interact with him, but he is by no means unfriendly. He openly tolerates any conversation occurring around him or directed at him without visible complaint, and seems to show some sense of alliance with certain parties, most notably Skeet.
Those certain parties who spend a good amount of time with him start to pick up on other aspects of his personality eventually. He is a bit of a gourmand, especially in dishes concerning Berries, and can be a little picky about foods that don't meet his surprisingly high standards. Guy also displays a startling amount of knowledge about many eclectic subjects, and seems to know a lot about a varied number of places, but how exactly, he doesn't say. There is a bit of an ego on him, and he appreciates recognition for even small contributions he makes, which can wear on others' nerves, but ultimately, Skeet finds the Shuckle's bluntness the tamest of his other eccentricities.
History: The real identity of "Guy" is as enigmatic as the Shuckle himself. Having wandered out of the Fog without a name that Skeet could pry out, Guy has revealed little about wherever he hails from, or even if he remembers it. Upon arriving in Andalusst, Skeet took it upon himself to get the newcomer Shuckle settled however he could, and he just went with it. Guy lived with Skeet and his mother as out of the way as he could make himself, but had no experience with city life with which he could establish himself in society. As Skeet decided to join a Guild, he asked if Guy would want to be a part of his team, and Guy agreed without argument.
With their friendship cementing into a true partnership, Skeet has tried to figure out where his friend comes from, but has gotten no answers from Guy. One can surmise that he had been traveling through the Fog for a long while, and in all possibility has seen things beyond imagination...

Quite an interesting duo you got here, it's always nice to see some new faces to the group! Welcome aboard and I hope that you enjoy your time here with PMD-Unity! Name's Suripi, but most call me Suri or Sur.
They both are very well thought from what I can see from just this application alone. Also really neat to see another Researcher's team as well! Hope to be seeing you around in the future, and if you ever want to chat sometime, just say the word!

Thanks for the welcome, Suri! ^^ And for the nice words about Skeet and Guy, I'm glad you like them. Same goes if you ever want to chat, just hit me up -- that's why I decided to join a group again!

Aaaaah I see! Well if it's not much trouble, I would like to know the best way to get in contact with you. Do you have anything like Skype, or do you stick with DA notes usually? If the former, would you be okay with exchanging that out? I can send my contact info through a note if you would like.

OH MAN! Can I just say, that at the moment I saw this team, I simply adored it xD You know, I've always been a fan of people who can create really unique looking characters while also keeping it simple (I SIMPLY LOVE SKEET SORRY XS) And just like Kingturok already mentioned, he do remind me of those old duck comics (which I used to read A LOT OF here in Europe xD So I guess that might have influenced my opinion )
But...Um... What do you mean with this line? ":Β A bit of a nervous Numel" Was that perhaps supposed to be a synonym of something? xD Either way, you should feel proud of making the first ducklett that I actually cared about xD (otherwise I tend to feel like the design is very bland)
Oh, and of Course guy is great too and all, but I'm just in love with skeet xD *instant fav+watch+comment*

Thanks so much for the super nice comment! Super blown away by how much you already seem to like these guys (esp. Skeet) -- I mean, *I* love these guys a bunch, but you never know how your creations will be received by others, you know? I agree that I like to keep unique designs simple, and I'm glad I managed to pull that off with Skeet.
The "nervous Numel" line was supposed to be me PokΓ©mon-izing the phrase "nervous Nellie", and of all the N-letter PokΓ©mon, I thought Numel fit best. Unnecessary? Probably. But I thought it'd be a fun thing to say ^^''

(HOLY **** I JUST REALIZED THAT I FORGOT TO REPLY TO THIS? (Blame homework xD)
You're welcome! Hehe, it's nothing! I just loved your design and generally, I know that longer comments are generally the ones that are the most appreciated
True, very much so. Making a character appealing is one of the key thing in making a character liked by others, which at least you made me do xD
OH, and I just realized something with the whole appeal thing, I actually used to read a lot of disney comics (they're still quite big over here in europe) and Skeet just reminded me of those comics for "SOME" reason xD
Yeah, I get it (Like those "dear arceus" (which just sound a bit odd to me xS)
Β
Either way, I'll definitely keep an eye out for these two in the future

(Aha, it's no trouble, though the homework business sounds trouble enough. X3)
You know, that's the second time I've been told Skeet reminds someone of Disney comics, and since I WAS studying Donald Duck for reference, I guess oughtn't be surprised. The comparison to a tried-and-true design base is much appreciated!
And "dear Arceus" is... well, I'm one of those fans who adamantly objects to to notion of PokΓ©mon-God, so I definitely agree that phrase sounds a little wrong to me.
I do have plans for these two that I hope to continue with after the holidays, so I hope you still enjoy what you see from them then!

(Well that's a relief then xD Yeah, it was :/)
BUT IT'S TRUE THOUGH XD Oh yeah, I mean, I did use disney movies as references for bears especially, and a lot of people often notice that thing as well xS It isn't anything bad though, not at all. In fact, I do like it, it's always fun to see how much inspirations can positively impact something!
Yeah, I', basically one of those though, it's just a bit silly xD
NOICE, well, that sounds great to hear! Comics perhaps?

(And now I've been late in responding to you, whoops! Holidays, heh. )
Yep, comics are in the plan! Kinda nervous about them since they are historically an intense undertaking for me, but I hope to take more fun from the experience than, well, exhaustion. In the meantime I also have writing plans, and I'm much more practiced with that medium, heh.

Pfft, it's fine ^^ (I sometimes just don't feel like writing replies sometimes xD)
Oh nice! I KNOW RIGHT? Fortunately, I've looked up A LOT OF references which will probably make the thing either+planning out the story before I started writing it and I'm also going to draw them in a similar style to chilly's comics which saves me a lot of time since that means that I don't need to ink and color it (I mean, in the traditional way. This new style is still time consuming of course)
Oh? Well that's not certainly a bad thing, but remember that fewer people will probably check it out then

CalicoWithAPencil In reply to TheSnarfinator [2016-01-05 19:14:31 +0000 UTC]
Heh, comics are always time-consuming. I still haven't quite worked out what style of comics I want to do, whether page by page or scrolling strip, or monochrome or colored... I'd like to do colored, but that definitely takes a lot of time, and digital coloring is something of a blind spot for me so far. 8/
Yeah, a bit disappointing how little attention or feedback writing gets. I get that it's way easier to absorb pictures than words, but certain things I'll only really be able to convey through writing. But knowing that, I think I'm gonna try and delegate events of lesser importance to writing, unless I'm really pressed for time or something.

TheSnarfinator In reply to CalicoWithAPencil [2016-01-07 12:35:54 +0000 UTC]
Definitely, it's always a challenge to figure out that yourself and even though I do feel rather confident with my comics, I always end up hating the afterwards xD Yeah
You basically summed it up right there, but that's basically how it is! Haha, well do what you want, as long as you're happy with it!
