The students left the door unlocked so, if they needed to, they could get out of the building quickly. However, the problem with that plan was that open doors are two-way. People can go out through them, and they also can come in through them.

The professor quietly slipped inside and followed her students. Sure enough, it looked like they were going in the direction of Larson's office.

The professor called campus security. It took two calls to get the night-guard to answer his phone. When he finally did pick up, he received a valuable tip: three students were inside the Art Building, getting ready to break into the office of the Department Chairman.
