I haven't played Splatoon in a while, but if memory serves: Octarians are the whole race of creatures you battle in single-player mode, and Octolings are the humanoid subset of Octarians.

Well, you can get other LoZ outfits by using amiibos based on various Link incarnations (Smash Bros. = Twilight Princess outfit), and a bunch of outfits from other Zelda games were included among the DLC packs, such as cosplaying as Zelda's Phantom from Spirit Tracks and (shudder) Tingle.

She inhales your weapons to upgrade them. For the final upgrade, she inhales Link.

The Octorok that acts as the boss of the Temple of Droplets in Minish Cap will also eat (Minish-sized) Link, as well as anything else it can inhale, such as the Water Element jewel.

I can think of two reasons:
1) I had this idea while playing Breath of the Wild, in the Eldin area where you have the Rock Octoroks. Sure, the Octorok in the drawing is closer to the DS-and-before designs, but the BotW Octorok is annoying to draw.
2) Link Between Worlds was... forgettable, at least to me. Honestly I would have never remembered the Maiamai at all until your comment.
