Not enough contrast. The background is too dark and the figures in front melt in (the white line does not help that much). I wished they stand out better I'm pretty sure a white background (on the top half of the pic at least) would help a lot.

It is, nevetherless, a great piece

Hello Hellbeasts

I stumbled on your painting through

So, my first impression, without reading what it was for, was;
A cover, quite scary with its almost black and white contrasts.
Cover, yes, because of its format of course and the titles.
The cross on the background and the cloudy night like atmosphere goes well with the title
The two figures make me think of zombies but they hold much more than that.
Their deformed faces have lots of expression, even more so because of missing the normal features like eyes and mouths.
Blacky seems to have so much to tell without a mouth.
Maybe he speaks with that flower?
In forms of smell?
And Wraps seems so isolated to what's around.
Can only breath and inhale.
In my mind, the flower is the only way to make clear that Blacky has arrived to take the next shift.
As one can not see and the other can not speak.

Now, I read that it is an entry for album art.
Also, I went looking up the contest and what they had to say about it
(By the way, I thought it was great that they involved fans with it )
They said it could be anything, didn't have to be close to the title.
I think you might went a bit to close to it.
The cross and the weathered wood being so clear in the picture.
The two creatures already inhabit a lot of your feel with the band I'd imagine.
Without being to obvious
Maybe if the cross would not be in the center but more of a foreground, cut off by the borders it would be not so much the first thing that catches the eye, but still, play a role in the image.

More about the composition; them two being so full upper body in the image + the highlight contouring gives a cut-out idea.
Cropping of a bit of the arm and side would put them more at place in the whole image.
Makes the viewer imagine outside of the borders
The highlight contour would work if there would be more of the idea of moonlight.
And if Wraps wouldn't have as much lighting on the front of her.

When I looked through your gallery I noticed your love for the contrasts The dark and light.
Also, your works behold lots of atmospheric ambience.
Because of that, I'm sharing this little knowledge I found.
We never see pure black or white, there is always tints of surroundings meddling with it.
So, to give a more 'life' kind of feel to a drawing use very dark colors for shadows and dark objects and give lights also a touch of tint.
You could even just try some painting over in an overlay layer to try out.
It doesn't have to be saturated colors. Maybe grayish green like the sky here.
And for the light a very pale yellow or maybe even blue.

Overall I think it's a great cover Lots of expression in those two and it holds a dramatic feel. Can't to wait to see more

Hi, I'm from Project Comment, and it is actually pretty easy to see it is from a album cover. In fact that is what I was about to compare it too before I read the description. It looks pretty good and it matches the feel really well, if I saw it in the store I probably would ave picked it up and examined it further. So it does do its job as a cover really well.
