Yes, they do seem to. I have watched them a lot, and they are drinking nectar from the flowers, it appears.

Fortunately, no. Seems like every time I have been stung I was minding my own business and the bee/yellowjacket/wasp just lands on me and stings me. Fortunately I am not allergic. I have never been stung either harassing or swating at them or while photographing them.
