I know right?! It's strange to think that Master Chief went back there after it was destroyed...before the events of Halo 5 I believe.

Maybe as a reminder of what to fight for, what would happen if he didn't fight, and knowing that victory is possible. Fred did say when they were there that their friend Sam proved that the covenant could be killed. They probably went back not only to pay their respects to him and the rest of the fallen, but to spark up the determination to fight, and win
