Description this is the first time in a warg'load of renders that i don't have to say "70-200 f/4L"! here's what i can say though:
3d'smacks 7 + vray!!

there's nothing really special about this one. it's just a remake of my first chess render, "It Has Begun" ( [link] ).
i just wanted to make more use of space so i added some useless blocks.
otherwise, it's the same exact render as the first. the pieces and their materials are the same, the board is the same (actually, it's a completely different map but it looks the same), the perspective is virtually the same.

so why would i bother making the same render again? i just felt the need to do some 3d stuff. with all of the photography lately, 3d rendering is really much lighter in terms of weight than lugging around my camera.

i'm pretty satisfied. given the little amount of work i put into this, i must be satisfied. next time, if there is a next time, i will try to add some color and a little bit of hdri. yes i know it has its flaws, like the knight or the relative size, but it's the same render as the last one. nothing has changed! perhaps next time, again if there is a next time, i'll refine the modeling a bit more. maybe even add textures.

don't expect renders in the future. this was just something that i was missing. my passion lies with glass! real glass of course, UD and CaF2 glass, not fake 3d computer generated glass.

render time: less than one hour

This would be a good piece if the board were set up correctly. The black queen and king are switched.

. The dark blocks round the outside make it so easy on the eyes. I wonder, what would the black pieces look like if they were ever so slightly more transparent? Perhaps they'd be too light. Anyway, that's a really well balanced picture, well done.

thank you for the and the crits.
initially, i thought the dark blocks on the outside did just the opposite: made it too complex and distracting.
yes, any more refractive and the black pieces would be too similar to the white pieces. i do wish, however, that the black pieces could be more refractive while maintaining their black tint. they look more solid than i would have liked. they are indeed the slightest bit transparent though.

WOW! The texture of the glass is amazing. If someone made this chess set, I would be the first in line to buy it. Absoulutely stunning. Fav from me. And this is now my wallpaper

just a click here and there and it brings you photorealistic reflections. i just sit back and...have a drink and then come back when it's done rendering.

back to the good old renders? anyway, I think it's very nice!

i was missing it a bit. though it doesn't quite give me the same pleasure as clicking a shutter, it's certainly more to appreciate. it's all the same old stuff though, no new tricks or styles.

YAY! More beautiful renders! Angle is sharp as usual, and the grey tiles surrounding the chess board bring down the mass intensity. It's as if this a moment in frozen time. I actually have a glass chess set here with me. Maybe I'll take some stock photos for you to fudge around with. n-n
