Colored version of the mermaid commission I just recently finished. Still not too great at backgrounds, but i'm trying so that's got to count for something right?Related content

That's a wild place to put gills...on the shoulders! I like the extra fins on the tail; too bad the commissioner didn't put fingerwebbing on request, they'd have looked great on this piece, too.

Something about the flow of her hair bothers me, and I think overall it could use more contrast, but other than that, lovely. Great design for the mermaid, the scales are well done and the shoulder gills are very creative. I like the effects of the water as well, especially all the different colors, but I feel you should put more foam in, around the rocks and shore. And the clouds are nice, great job with the wispy effect and I love that there's gray mixed in them, but overall, they look too evenly placed. Maybe if you had one area with more and another with less? Oh, and I'm definately taking notes on the rocks. The coloring with two shades is a little simple and flat, but the shape of the rocks is amazing.
For not liking backgrounds, you did a great job. I hope the commissioner likes it.

wow, you really went all out on the mermaid, she looks great, with the lights reflecting off on her and everything. Might be nice to see some lighter tones on the rocks, but that might depend on the mood you were going for overall. as for the shadows, wow, look at em, theyre awesome, they follow the forms of the rock. awesome, great, hope your commisioner loves it, cause I do =3
