Description Some thoughts that pass through my head when I'm designing a winged creature, in this case a Cearcilly. I've done another more in depth study of 'em (though that one lacks commentary). fav.me/dd3hfn6

Questions? Thoughts?

The Cearcilly species was designed with the help of my friend StormLyriksArt and the original concept can be found here: fav.me/dcjounv

I try my best

Ow, yeah, not fun. It sure as heck ain't easy for quadrupeds either, but humanoids have such small rib cages and making them larger looks wonky.

I've been looking at moths and butterflies for inspiration, thing seem to look at bit better then.

Thanks! C:

I've been told I'm thinking about art as an engineer would, and I think that's what allows me to think my designs/concepts through as much as I do. (Doesn't mean that they're better than anyone else's, just different).

Seems very well-though out! I like the idea that the second pair of wings would be the rudder, that seems more intuitive than both of them flapping at once ^^ The whole structure slightly reminds me of dragonfly wings--there are some awesome slo-mo vids on Youtube of them flying that might be interesting to watch. And I agree, the patagium looks much better when it's in front of the shoulder, not sure why. Maybe because it looks like a bigger muscle, which would help it fly and also catch more air to generate lift? Something like that.

Anyway, very cool! Keep it up!

I got the idea of using the secondary pair as a rudder from how butterflies fly, they're like the closest we can get on earth for a four bird-winged creature.
Oh, dragonflies, that's true, I'll have too look that stuff up, I've not read up on how dragonflies fly at all.
Oh, yeah, that might be the reason for why it looks better, ungh, fantasy creature design is just so full of guesswork and personal preferences.
Thank you C:
