The accusations of hate and intolerance are a targeted and selectively biased attack on white people. They aren't accusing Chinese or blacks or other races are they? Are they attacking Chinatown as racist or the Vietnamese markets here in the US? No.
All peoples and races have a past (or present) that can look bad or good depending on what is selected. It's also projection since the people using this character assassination tactic think in collective terms as in white, black, Asian, straight, gay, etc... Collective terms rob us of our god given individual identity. It says more about them than it does the one they accuse. Who is termed 'the accuser', historically?
They don't seem to believe in due process and accuse whoever and whenever it serves them. The flag stood for 'southern pride' or the South's separation from the north to me. It didn't directly stand for racism to me in the modern day. In the past more so but not so much now. Or it stood for the car in the Dukes of Hazard. 
They'll let this selective opinion of the past go when it no longer serves them or their own karma comes back on them for their own hatred and intolerance for white people who dare to disagree with them.

AGREE , With your take on this issue . The current political climate is no one wants to ruffle any feathers of anyone and they are so afraid of offending any minority . Hence the pussyified , POLITICALLY CORRECT wording terminology and climate !!!!!!!!!!!!! I live in a small Southern town and they are very hard working ,God loving , prideful and would give you the shirt off their back if you were in need . But don't wrong them , try to take their guns or try to tell them they can't display the Confederate flag !!!!!!!!!!! The same holds true for the Confederate monuments . They are a part of our history , good or bad and should be respected and preserved . I am a transplant CITY TO COUNTRY , so had to adapt to different people and their ways of doing things . Life is a lot more quiet and peaceful here in Western North Carolina . I believe in the rule , LIVE AND LET LIVE !!!!!!!!!!! Let em have their Symbol (Flag) , if it makes them happy !!!!!!!!!!! DON'T TREAD ON ME !!!!!!!!!!THE Southern people are very independent and set in their ways . They consider it a proud symbol of their heritage . Just because you find it offensive and want to ban its display , does not mean it will be accepted . The confederate monuments are part of this past history and should be preserved and not destroyed . The slaves were liberated and minorities have more education and opportunities now . The civil war and slavery are a thing of the past . Accept this, get over it and move on !!!!!!!!!!!!
