Description
A light drizzle of rain dappled the ground, spotting the dirk and the grass as the rain splashed on the river's surface. Mud had started to gather at the river bend, but more often than not her paws got messy in her rank, and mud on her paws wasn't as messy as having blood staining your paws. She was thankful for that, really. The golden dappled she-cat blinked against the rain and the slight winds that had risen to splash into her face. She breathed calmly as her paws sunk into the mud and she grimaced slightly in disgust, not even being a fraction of RiverClan heritage - it bothered her, more than she cared to admit. She leaped out of the mud, streaks of brown trailing up the length of her paws, then galloped along the grassy part of land, trailing paw prints of mud behind before she slowed down as the river curved away. She smiled in satisfaction before tilting her ears, scenting the air before nodding to herself. Of course, the WindClan and ShadowClan medicine cats weren't scented on the path to the Moonstone.
"Mothwing?" She turned at the mention of her name, blinking in mild surprise at the brown tabby she-cat as she splashed through the river, the water having been high this season and has thus reached up to the apprentice's shoulders, but she swam across just before the RiverClan medicine cat sprang forward to help her. "I didn't expect you to be early."
Mothwing's heart constricted and she smiled bashfully, "Aha, no, well ... I just wanted to be early this time. Where's Cinderpelt?" She smiled pleasantly at the pale brown she-cat who grinned at her response and bounded eagerly forward, close enough to brush pelts. "Is she coming along?"
"Yeah, she's coming. She's just falling behind, right now. She had to take care of one of Dustpelt's wounds from the latest skirmish with the twolegs. You know, they're nearing the camp quickly enough." She looked troubled then, shaking her head to herself. It wasn't news that the twolegs had chosen to tear down the forest nearest ThunderClan first, either. "What about Mudfur? Is he coming?"
"No, he was too busy with the patients. He told me to go to the Moonstone without him."
"Really? That's a shame. Oh well, at least there's going to be the two of us before Cinderpelt joins us!" She meowed, flicking her tabby tail and smiling pleasantly. She flicked her amber eyes up at the RiverClanner who shied away from her gaze, much to the apprentice's curiosity. Mothwing coughed awkwardly and watched Leafpaw out of the corner of her eye, noticing the way that the moonlight danced across her wet fur and her heart lurched forward as she let her eyes travel the length of the ThunderClanner before snapping her eyes back to Leafpool's face as the younger she-cat meowed. "Mothwing?"
"Yes?" She meowed, her throat feeling constricted as she tried to swallow the bundle of nerves down. She kept her calm composure but her ears burned as she eyed the lithe apprentice, "What is it, Leafpaw?"
"Is something bothering you?" The apprentice's voice was soft and full of worry, and Mothwing sighed. "I can tell something is, so don't try to deny it." The long-tailed she-cat flicked her tail, her eyes brimming with wisdom and warmth that made Mothwing's pelt feel warm, and made her paws feel numb.
"Okay, you have the right to know." Suddenly the night air felt cool along her pelt. She leaned forward, her breath smelling of fish and honeysuckle as she opened her mouth to start, her breath tickling the she-cat's face, causing her thin whiskers to twitch; Leafpaw barely batted an eye, both of their movements stopping. "I lov-"
"Leafpaw, remind me that we need more comfrey and cobwebs, okay?" Came a voice from behind the brush before it parted, leaves dappling the length of the grey she-cat's face as she watched the pair with a curious gaze. She smirked at the RiverClanner with a knowing look before pushing her way through the leaves, splashing through the river before padding after them, her gait slow and awkward as she hobbled. "I'm not interrupting anything, am I, Mothwing?"
Leafpaw opened her mouth in response to her mentor, but the crippled warrior shushed her, her eyes full of amusement and something that looked like remorse. "No, Cinderpelt," the RiverClan she-cat meowed in response, closing her eyes for a few moments and smiling pleasantly although her heart ached.
"Good, let's get moving, then," Cinderpelt commented, stepping between them and ushering her apprentice forward. The dark grey she-cat smiled meekly at the dappled she-cat who flinched away, as if burned and lowered her gaze. With only a quick glance behind her, the light brown she-cat bounded forward, leaving behind the RiverClanner and her mentor.
"Mothwing ... you know the code, right?" Mothwing nodded without a word. "Then you know it will never work out. Don't get hurt, Mothwing. It will only ruin your life, and even then ... " Cinderpelt shook her head, her long fur swaying in the slight breeze, moonlight dancing across her sleek body. "Just think about what she wants." Then she bounded towards the Moonstone, following the trail of her apprentice who was still in sight.
Mothwing padded after them, watching with wary eyes as the light brown she-cat's hips swayed as she slowed her gait to wait for her mentor. Perhaps ... Cinderpelt was right, and she was only going to get hurt in the end ...

Hmm. Yeah, maybe, but that doesn't guarantee that Leafpool (or, -paw, in this case) will confess to liking her back.

Why did CinderPelt have to interrupt the beautiful, breath-taking moment? Agh! X3

Because she feared how the others Clans would react if news spread? Of how it'd fare between the two if the relationship failed but they needed to help each other with their Clans? Cinderpelt was being over cautious, that's why.
Sorry, that was probably a rhetorical question.
