Description
Zelda stood over her four year old daughter, untangling the girl's golden hair as gently as she could, which was less than easy. The girl kept fidgeting, wriggling around in her seat and making it harder and harder for Zelda to remain patient while she worked on saving her child's rat nest hair. Eventually, she'd had enough of dodging the young Princess's squirms, and she set the hairbrush aside on the desk beside them.
"Valurin! How many times do I have to tell you to sit still before you finally listen!?" she huffed, though mostly to herself, as toddlers tended to ignore logical lessons.
Valurin simply shrugged and scooted around on her knees, until she was facing her mother. She sat back down, her green sundress puffing up around her legs.
"I'm boreeed!" she whined.
Zelda fought the urge to roll her eyes.
"You have plenty of toys to play with." she replied.
Valurin shook her head.
"No, I want to go on an adventure!" she insisted.
"An adventure?" Zelda repeated.
"Yeah! Like you and Papa!" Valurin practically bounced in her seat, her emerald eyes gleaming.
Zelda smiled softly, but before she could reply, a royal guard appeared in the bedroom doorway, knocking exactly once on the open frame. He saluted quickly, then couldn't quite hide a smile upon seeing Princess Valurin with her tangled hair. He fell back into iron-cast professionalism with haste, and delivered is message.
"Your Majesty, The Captain of the Guard has returned."
Valurin's sweet, childlike gasp filled the room and stopped the exchange dead in it's tracks. She leapt from her chair and raced passed the guard, letting out a loud, "YAAAY!" as she went. Zelda watched her daughter disappear in wide-eyed wonder, then shot the guard a humorous glance. Both of them had a good laugh before she began to follow the Princess to the entryway.
"Thank you, Sir. You are relieved for the day."
Downstairs, the Captain of the Royal Guard and Hero of the Wilds had just returned from the armory, having shed his weapons and shields, grateful to be back after a three-day-long mission protecting Hateno from a horde of Bokoblins. He had almost reached the stairs, when he caught sight of a familiar little blur, heading straight for him. He smiled and knelt down, arms outstretched toward the blonde-haired, green-eyed ball of energy. She ran toward him with her hands out in front of her, laughing like only a child could know how.
"Papa! Papa!" she chanted.
"Val! I missed you so much!" Link replied as she barreled into his chest. He pulled her in close and blew a raspberry onto her cheek, earning a manic giggle from the Princess.
"Did you see any monsters!?" she asked. "Were they big or small!? Did they have scales!? Could they fly!?"
"Whoa, one question at a time!" Link said.
Valurin quieted down, though she continued to bounce up and down in his arms.
"Yes, I did see monsters." he said.
Valurin gasped, as if she hadn't already known that.
"And they couldn't fly, but they had huge, twisty fangs!"
From five steps up the front staircase, the Queen cleared her voice. Link and their daughter glanced up to see her, and she descended the last few steps to stand beside them. Link stood up with Valurin in his arms. The Princess prodded him to continue his story, but in that moment, he was focused on his wife. She wrapped her arms around both him and their child, and held them both tight for a moment.
"I'm glad you're home safe." she said.
Link grinned, and placed a swift, sweet kiss on Zelda's lips.
"Glad to be home." he said.
Valurin stuck out her tongue and groaned.
