When I was a student at the School of New Media Arts, I followed a professor who saw new media art as artistic content made up of gears, mechanisms, and code. He despised intuitive creation.

However, I am a person who dwells partially in the subconscious. I had some been guided by him in my art projects for almost 2 years. Unfortunately, when he saw my art notes filled with symmetrical patterned images, he was disgusted and made it clear from the start how shallow he found the content.

As a young Asian student, I am always try to believe that profs are all trying to makes us better, so... yeah, burdened with insecurity, I felt compelled to stop using these elements. It was only after I completed my MFA many years later that I realized my preference for working in a symmetrical, inkblot-like mode in search of hidden messages and inspirations. I felt sorry for the professor at the time, as he seemed to have overlooked the beauty of the world. His overly masculine approach appeared to have subjectively ignored the message within the subtle flow.

This year, I continue to be captivated by the random patterns created by light and color. Yes, as a VR painting artist, I use technology, but I don't rely on code to do everything for me.

When everything is overly organized, the world starts to lose its fun, not to mention the fact that we exist in a very complex universe😬🙏🏻✨🧞
