"Will we ever get started again?" the blue pacific huffed loudly.

Ever since the new engine was built - now named Gay Crusader II, the public had been interested and wide-eyed to see this replica of old-time machinery built. Because of all the people, the manager had to put on extra trains - or even extra coaches. This didn't really bother the engines until a signal failure that night held them up.

"It could be much worse," Gay Crusader II said, "for everything bad in this world, I'm most glad we didn't submerge ourselves in that lake over there."

"Even if we did, we wouldn't go THAT low! This stream isn't even as deep as the bloody pacific!"

"But... how exactly are we deep?" he raised an eyebrow. Sparrowhawk just rolled his eyes.

"You know, for once, you're actually much better than your predecessor. Nothing but a nuisance and stuck-up pacific."

Gay Crusader II perked up. He had heard all about his old self and how rude and callous he was. Sparrowhawk - nor Florian, Winston or any other ex-LNER engines on the railway ever spoke much of him.

"What exactly was he like?" he looked back, mustering up courage.

Sparrowhawk hesitated for a bit but thought now was the time;

"Gay Crusader - your old self, was nothing but a disgrace. He was manipulative, stuck-up, and an excessive whiner. From what my siblings Mallard and his brothers like Scotsman said when I was built, he was always breaking rules and regulations but thought he was always let off the hook for being a gracious engine. He even had the audacity to call me and my siblings out for "replacing" them."

"This all came to ahead when he had to take a goods train. He was sulking loudly all the way and he didn't pay much attention to the signals. He overran one as a result... a passenger train... and..."

Sparrowhawk trailed off. Gay Crusader II stood wide-eyed and his mouth a gape. He couldn't say anything. Sparrowhawk brought himself back together and continued.

"The accident was so severe that the rails were in a horrible state like the collision. Gay Crusader couldn't be saved, BR didn't have the time to repair him anyways. He was later withdrawn and scrapped. I feel sorry for him, but the way he treated us was despicable... but you're much different from him. Though you share the same name, you are much more kinder and optimistic..." Sparrowhawk smiled slowly.

Gay Crusader II just smiled back at the A4, "So, that's why you were rude to me? I'm... quite sorry for how... my 'old' self treated you. I promise I'm nothing like him! I swear!"

"I know you aren't, but if there's something that could better differentiate you from him, is that you ought to deserve a proper name..." Sparrowhawk added.

"I don't really want a name. Gay Crusader is good enough - even if you have to refer to me as 'Gay Crusader the Second'!" he chuckled.

Both pacifics just chuckled to themselves as the moon shined brightly down on them. Two LNER engines, two cousins, two friends.

Gordon and Spencer but if Gordon was younger and the rivalry didn't exist

Honestly, even if they're cousins, Cameron still sees Sparrowhawk as a father figure. This is also the only engine Sparrowhawk actually cares about - and not just for being LNER!

p.s., god let Cameron and Sparrow's numbers be correct!
