Mephistopheles remembers Michael's promise to wait for him and now he ponders whether he should return. First, Michael can heal. Second, the angel doesn't mind kisses and caresses, and it opens interesting perspectives. Third, even if everything will end up being just an innocent embrace, it is still more pleasant than sitting alone and being offended at the whole world.
So Mephistopheles returned. And almost all his hopes came true. The angel has healed and embraced him. But there was a small hiccup with 'interesting perspectives'. After everything he went through, Mephistopheles was so exhausted and he got too tired after the healing that the only thing on his mind now was to get a proper sleep.
Even Michael's caress only makes him more sleepy. Michael understands that it's all he can get for now, so he is content with serving as a pillow and stroking delighted Mephistopheles.
