So I might be more than a little into Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt .This may come as a shock to those of you who know about my disdain for anime. but let me assure you that this series is nothing like any anime you've ever watched seeing as how it's HEAVILY inspired by western animation. it's influences include but are not limited to Power Puff Girls, Ren & Stimpy, Invader Zim, Courage the Cowardly dog, and Possibly Gorillaz I'm not sure. I'd even go so far as to say it satires western animation while poking fun at it's anime sisters.
Not to mention the series is ridiculously hilarious while being very clever...it's not everyone's cup of tea, but if you're curious here's a Little Taste they did a music video, because...why not?...if you like what you see the series is easy as hell to find it's all over you tube, just google that shit.
This show has been such a fresh wave of inspiration! I've decided to add it to my Style Challenge List ...oh yes I have not forgot about that.
as for the picture itself...I'm fairly pleased with it, Garterbelts hair needs to be bigger and Panty looks like shit ( I don't really like the bitch anyways) but all in all this was a lot of fun to draw, I need to re-think my anti-fanart policy.

Huh? How is this anime heavily inspired by western animation when it has all the typical sexual content in it that you don't find in western animation? How is this show even influenced by the ones you named? I'm sorry to ask but really, I don't see it.

Well, uhm...considering this picture is over a year old...yea I did have room for improvement.
Have you watched it? Because the style and many of the characters in it are heavily inspired by western shows I don't even know how you could miss it if you've watched the show. Chuck (the little green guy that hang out with them) is a blatant copy cat of Gir, Their thick outlines and eyes are very power puff girls. The ghosts on the show are often based off western cartoons ( like the ghost couple that is so painfully obviously ren and stimpy) and thats just off the top of my head, it has been over a year since I have seen the series. But art direction of a shower and content of a show have nothing to do with each other so I don't even know why your bringing it up. all the shows PSG gets its influence from are children's shows, Panty and Stocking itself is not a children's show- so obviously they are going to be a bit more risquΓ©
But I have to tell you, this is very rude for a "critique" You should at the very least say something you like about the picture as well instead of just saying it looks like shit without giving any reasons why, whats wrong and how to fix it other than "look at some tutorial" thank you, that only narrows it down to every tutorial ever made by any hack with patience.

I was simply agreeing with you. You want an explanation? For starters, basic human anatomy and secondly you could've added in some shading but I digress. Yea, I can tell you don't know how to critique. "anatomy" and "needs shading" aren't really helpful. No one has bad anatomy on purpose so if you don't point out what the problem is I have no idea what your talking about.
But since you refuse to many any sense I guess we have nothing to discuss. I can't be bothered with dissecting a series I haven't watched in over a year for a stranger on the Internet. If you want to google it yourself have fun with that.

I do, it's just hard to do so when you haven't improved much; from looking at your gallery up till now. Why would anyone have bad anatomy on purpose? That's a new one on me. When someone tells you your anatomy needs work it's usually a hint to just look for tutorials and even more so when you call one part of it 'shit' when that part of it looks like the rest of the piece.
Nope, we don't. I mean when you're trying to talk with one of those 'I know it all' type of people who don't offer any reason of why. I've given you a few links along with a few more questions because yes, I've seen the PPG, PASWG, Ren and Stimpy, Invader Zim and Courage the Cowardly Dog to which I still don't see how you drew some strange conclusion. But when all you can do is pull things out of your ass with no real reasoning behind it I understand.
So no, PASWG has no connection from the shows you mentioned; style and such etc.

Well, I have spent the last year trying to mimic a different art style than my own- so I'll admit not much anatomy practice has gone on in this particular year.
But I think you misunderstand me, let me clear it up for you " no one has bad anatomy on purpose" is a true statement. anyone who draws anything does so to the best of their abilities ( unless they are doodling or being lazy) so any anatomy flaws that are glaringly obvious to another party are not so obvious to the person who drew it, once the flaw has been pointed out however 9 times out of 10 the artist will respond " oh, you're right that is off, thank you for pointing it out" you did no such thing. You said "it looks like shit learn anatomy" which is not helpful, to anyone trying to improve. because they look at at tutorials all day and night until their eyes bleed- but until they know what they are doing wrong it will take longer to correct.

Pretty much what I'm starting to believe. I used to do that until someone told me my anatomy was horrible then I started looking for tutorials on that. Even when they blatantly said 'this is shit, learn to anatomy'. Perhaps it's time to learn anatomy instead of copying styles?

I am curious, because you're trying to make a point why you didn't bother to linking to any of this earlier? But as far as this part goes, you're right-there's an uncanny resemblance of these 4 characters from these two different shows.

Hmm...I'm beginning to think you're not just some random commenter---but related to one of my haters past who just can't get over me. You seem to share a lot of view points soemone who thought they knew me did without any real reasoning to back it up. But for the moment I'll humor you.
Improving is always my goal...I study things here and there when they are available to me. So, I took a year off to lean a copyrighted art style- is that illegal? am I not allowed to take some time off my main goal to work on other things? am i on some sort of improvement time limit? I must be X good by X time or else I fail?
Oh wow, You dug though my entire gallery to find one disagreement I had with one person over 2 years ago. I'm not sure if I'm impressed or creeped out. But your creepy research is flawed because if you look at my new stuff- I wound up taking her advice ANYWAYS. And yea, at the time I was mildly offended by something she said " well this artist is known for THIS"- well, I'm not that artist so don't expect me to be like them. You don't have to blindly accept every critique you receive. each one should be weighed for it's value. Some I agree with, some I do not agree with...am I supposed to blindly follow every critique I get? if some one told me " hey, your girls need bigger tits" should I just drop everything and make their tits bigger?
You seem to want to paint me out to be soemone who can not take critique, who cries about style vs learning real anatomy, and knows everything. But if you will read through our conversation you will noticed no where- did I once disagree with you in saying that PANTY looks like shit in this picture. even now she looks worse than when I first drew her. So I agree, theres room for improvement. But my problem with you is you didn't tell me where. So I don't feel you were critiquing I feel you were attacking. Excuse me if I am wrong but you don't seem very apologetic or misunderstood to me.
As for the show...it's not my job to explain where shows get their influence from...I'm not bedtime story lady.

Comparing your style to another persons style just because you do similar things is not a valid argument. That's like saying "Oh, I draw anime. THEREFORE I DRAW LIKE AKIRA TORIYAMA". Now, before you call me biased because I am Courtney's friend, I know Courtney stylizes her figures on PURPOSE, not because of lack of life drawing. We both attended the same classes in high school, trust me we've done a lot of it. Now when I look at your figures Candy, I lack a sense of volume and mass in your figures. They look wonky. I'll try and get a RED LINE CRITIQUEEE later on for y'all.

I have every bit as much potential as she does, if not more so. and I'm starting to get really sick of her " you'll never be anything" attitude... YES!! My friends have recently got me into this show and I love it! It is so insane and crazy. Just my style!
I am really fond of the artwork on the show. I also like when the kill the enemy's the figures blow up like Power Rangers!
But your rendition of them is perfect! I love how you drew their poses and expressions, my favorite being Stocking (I love her very much) I like how you drew her legs and her one arm reaching up. Her face and hair look great too.
I like Panty's pose, especially the shapely legs and waist. I like her arm reaching out too.
Garterbelt looks awesome in your style! I like how you made his afro and facial hair look. I also like how you drew his hand holding the book.

Anyway, I love this to bits! The girls' poses are both amazing, and I love the detail into their eyes and the lace. Also, the way you colored Garterbelt's hair is really cool!
