Description
This whole stream was at one point a swimming pool, it had a flood gate at the other end that would let the water flow halt and flood the area enough for people to swim, also had an ice cream shop on the opposite side, all was lost in 1972 after Agnes.Related content

Doesn't sound like a pool, sounds like a boat lock. All the posts were probably a guardrail or mooring posts. www.canals.ny.gov/boating/img/…
They probably re-purposed it into a pool if they banned large boats from the river and it had no use anymore.

No, the stream was too shallow for boats, the creek was generally only a couple inches deep at the other ends, so boats wouldn't be able to go through there.

Well a lot of it was already there after 1972, the put the rest in there as a truck pathway to the end of the creek where they are digging.

Used to be a local park with a beach where you could swim here. Even had lifeguards and a snack bar. My dad said it was the only local place where you could swim for free. Sadly they found the bacteria count in the water was too high and had to close it. The only other place you can swim for free is a pool in the city, which is in a pretty rough area.
