The colours are nice, but I wished the focus could have been on the centre of the flower, and not the front.

Thanks. Yeah, I did too a bit, but that's hard with a point and shoot. I also think this is a little more original than just a plain centered rose shot. I dunno.

Hey thats really cool. I love the title. You got the focusing and depth of field perfect in this shot, thats sometimes hard to get right in macro shots. Good soft colours too. nice work!

Thank you. I took this with my first digital camera, which is generally my preference for all my floral macros. It's smaller and easier to work with around such delicate subjects. For my other work, I use my Canon.

such lovely colour Pink flowers are always such wonderful subjects
in response to your journal I provide the following critique:
1. The ISO is higher than you should use on your model camera, as there is a lot of grain in the bottom, and top left hand corners of the shot
2. The super sharp focus at the front of the flower is nice because it shows the 'veins' of the flower, but the center is 'slightly' more out of focus than I would have liked.
hehe but really what do I know, I think you are a much better (and definitely more trained) photographer than I am

I don't think ISO is really the issue here. The EXIF data indicates a value of 128. That's pretty close to the minimum value of 100 from a Digital Rebel, which, if I'm not mistaken, is what you have. Is what I have too
Even at 200, I see you've taken some spectacular pictures. But I can still see trace noise in some of your 100 ISO shots, ie [link]
The cat itself is perfectly lit, and I love the soft elegance that comes with the shallow depth of field. But the Rebel has a habit of generating noise through dark areas. At a resolution of ~900k, I can still see it.
I'm guessing it's the same scenario with this flower. Some dark shading combined with shallow depth of field resulting in visible noise. But in the end, I think it adds substantial charm to this piece.
Gives a sense of volume to a subject that's been photographed over and over again. Makes it stand out. Definitely worth a fave.

Thanks for improving on my comment, im sure she'll appreciate your advice
I appreciate you taking the time to check out my gallery as well, and thanks for the kind words I feel wierd replying to this here though as it seems to distract from the photo at hand

Thanks for such a detailed critique. I took this with my point and shoot camera, so unfortunately it chooses its own ISO.
The noise was annoyed me too and I already reduced some of it. I was a bit bothered by the centering being off focus too, but at the same time I think it's kinda neat to have the focus on something other than the center, since that's the usual (and since my camera didn't want to focus on the center lol).

Hehe I had a feeling it was taken with a point and shoot but I didnt take the time to check out the models your exif data listed since it shows three different modesl Its too bad, I only had one point and shoot in the past that didnt let me set an ISO, but, the problem with the rest was there was only ever one option that didnt create ridiculous amounts of grain.
Oh one thing I would recommend for using a point and shoot, turn on the flash, but block it with a finger! If its fully auto, itll probably use a lower iso when your flash is set to go off. The only disadvantage is it might also cut down the shutter speed, do some experimentation maybe you can trick it into using more ideal settings
But really Alyssa you're a better photographer than me so my critiques might not always be worth much
