Description JOB APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN

It's getting harder and harder each day to provide the group enough cuties for everyone! Eggs are getting claimed very soon after they are put up for adoption. We've decided to open up colorist applications so we can keep Artistic Adoptions well-stocked and the members happy!

More colorists will be chosen as the group progresses and expands~ there is no set date for additional colorists to be hired, so if you don't become part of the team right away, you might still have a chance later on.

Job Description

Coloristis of Canvas-Cuties are the people who draw designs on the eggs and cuties that go up for sale in Artistic Adoptions! In addition to this, they also help out with things such as accepting fanart and updating Growth Gauges.

Rewards

Though it is a tough job, and not to be taken lightly, the rewards can be great. Appreciation from the members is just one thing.
You get to paint one legend egg that will be drawn by the founder, ~Lunar-Wind . In addition, you may design and hatch your own eggs, but only one every three months at the most as to not be in abuse of your powers.

Requirements

You must have a program that can handle layers such as Photoshop, SAI, or GIMP in order to properly use the bases. If you do not have any of the above, consider getting one. You cannot use Paint to make cuties.
It is preferred that you have had previous experiences with working at an adoptables group. If you don't, however, you still have a good chance of being hired.
You need a simple understanding of how to use layers, draw designs, and follow directions.
There is no age requirement, but you must act reasonably mature.
Proper spelling and grammar will improve your chances of being hired.

Application Rules and Guidelines

The colorist application is to be used for colorist applications to #Canvas-Cuties only.
Do not remove the application or copyright watermarks.
Cuties cannot have designs that block in more than 3/4 of their coats.
Keep it fairly simple - stay away from designs that are too busy as members may need to trace your design(s) when painting their egg.
Basic cuties only have designs on their primary color - do not make designs overlap the secondary or tertiary colors.
Try to stay away from using designs that are copyrighted.
Basic cuties only use one color for their markings - a light gray that is barely visible. Make sure that the color is grayscale and not tinted a different color, or it will be classified as an uncommon.

Application Form

Fill out the form below and put it in the Artist's Comments of your application.

Username?
Age range?
How would you describe your skills as an artist?
How long have you been on dA?
How long have you been a member of Canvas-Cuties?
How often are you on dA?
Examples of relatable work?
Have you worked for any other adoptable groups? If so, who?
Are there any other experiences you've had that would be of use?
Why do you want to work at Canvas-Cuties?

Instructions

Your purpose is simple - design three basic cuties using the application file. You will also need to fill out the application form above.

Hit the "Download" button to download the application.
Open the application in a program such as Photoshop or GIMP.
Let's get designing!

~~~
EGG
1) Open up the Egg folder and select the DESIGNS layer.
2) Using the Eyedropper/Color Picker tool, select a color from the shaded part of the primary (base) color.
3) Test the color, and adjust it to be lighter or darker as you see fit. The color should be dark enough to see clearly, but not dark enough to interfere when a design is painted over it.
4) Draw your design!
5) Save the file so you don't lose your work. Be sure it's saved as a .PSD or a .TIFF as to preserve the layers in case you need them again. It is a good idea to save periodically. If you're still using the original file name, remember to change the name of the file as to not overwrite the original application file - you'll need it later!
~~~

CUTIE

1) Open up the Cutie folder and select the DESIGNS layer.
2) Using the Eyedropper/Color Picker tool, select a color from the shaded part of the primary (base) color.
3) Test the color, and adjust it to be lighter or darker as you see fit. The color should be dark enough to see clearly, but not dark enough to interfere when a design is painted over it.
4) Draw your design!
5) Save the file so you don't lose your work. Be sure it's saved as a .PSD or a .TIFF as to preserve the layers in case you need them again. It is a good idea to save periodically. If you're still using the original file name, remember to change the name of the file as to not overwrite the original application file - you'll need it later!

~~~
CREATING MULTIPLE CUTIES
Once you've finished the cutie in your first application, make all the layers visible and hit Shift+Ctrl+E to merge them. You may have to do this manually by right-clicking on the layers area and clicking "Merge Visible" or "Flatten Image".
Save the file. If you're still using the original file name, remember to change the name of the file as to not overwrite the original application file - you'll need it later!
Create a new file that is 900x1500px.
Copy and paste the first application into the new document.
Repeat this for the other two cuties.
Once you're done with this, it's time to move on!
~~~

SUBMITTING

Save the 900x1500px image as a .PNG file. This will preserve the quality and transparency. If you're using SAI, you may need to save it as a .PSD instead and have someone open it in Photoshop or GIMP to transparent it.
Time to submit the deviation to deviantART!
The deviation should be entitled "APPLICATION : Your Username" or, if it doesn't fit, shorten it to "APP: Your Username".
The Keywords should be "adoptables Canvas-Cuties application"
Don't forget to link to the group in your description!
Submit your deviation to the Applications Folder of the group.
An admin will review your submission and accept it.

Click on the little arrows next to the folders' titles to open them. This will reveal the layers categorized under the folder. When you're done with the layers, you can simply close the folder again by clicking the arrow once more.

That's basically all there is to working with them on a basic level. There's also making new layers under folders, making sub-folders, moving layers in and out of folders, etc.

Nevermind, I figured it out. My PS doesn't support layers, so I sent the file over to a friend and he corrected it for me. Thanks anyway though.

(Gah, I can't wait to see if I got the job or not ovo)

What are you specifically looking for in a colorist?

Canvas-Cutie In reply to SugarSheba [2011-05-28 04:20:04 +0000 UTC]

First-off, the application should follow all rules/guidelines. We like to look for creativity and quality in the art itself.
Age doesn't necessarily matter as long as the member acts reasonably mature and/or has decent spelling/grammar.

A member with some experience in the adoptables business may have a better chance, but it is preferable if that member is not part of or running too many other groups as then they will not have as much time to help around the group.

Activity plays a role as well, such as if you have been an active member of dA and/or C-C for a decent period of time. If the member has left dA/C-C numerous times, they may not have as much of a chance to be considered, as this usually shows signs that the member will be inactive/disloyal to the group.

Of course, not everything here will apply 100% of the time - to sum it up, we are most likely to hire active members who follow the rules.

Can't you just make a 900x1500px file, paste the appication into it three times, and scale it around, and then color onto it?

And are you still taking applications? I'd love to be a colorist~

If users only have paint, they can download paint.net
It can handle layers, and is free. It's kinda like photoshop, but without so many apps.

Just thought that little tidbit would be useful to would-be applicants who only have paint.

It would probably be better to get Gimp, it's free also and I find it's a simple program that could help them in the future. ^^
