Description
The Union Pacific has always been known for it's thirst for power; the Big Boy,Challengers, 9000s and others. The Coal turbine #80, was a test and a step forward
which provided them with a mound of information. Number 80 consisted of three
units, a lead control Alco PA, a middle Turbine unit ( ex- Great Northern W-1 Cascade )
and a fuel tender. It didn't quite work out and unfortunately, it wasn't preserved,
like it's brothers, in Illinois but, what an impressive site it made under power
and I'm sure that jet engine sound...heightened the senses as it went by!
