Description
Holding on the #1 main and it's siding are two N&W Y6bs with their coal trains; each waiting forclearance. Heading westbound but stopped at a red signal is a Pennsylvania RR M1-b, 4-8-2
steamer while in the yard shifting some cars around for the eminent departure of the late
afternoon Union Pacific Challenger, is a Southern Pacific SW-1 switcher in orange tiger strips.
Note the smoke lifters or "elephant ears" on the Challenger, which will be heading through a few
tunnels but at high speeds, they will keep some of the thick exhaust from making its way back
into the cab.
However, in the tower, I can just hear that dispatcher earning his pay by keeping everyone
on their toes and efficiently keeping the rails warm!
