The San Luis Obispo rail museum has a great layout to which I am a docent. On a slow Saturday, I pulled my GS-4 out and ran it around the main. In Surf California, (Sixty miles south of SLO), I lined up the other two freights for a side by side line up.

Yeah the museum is a pretty recent development. The old frieght house building was bought from the railroad in 2003 and spent a pretty penny renovating it. Since then there has been both a standard gauge and narrow gauge display tracks built as well as a whole host equipment. Inside the freight house is old SP and some stuff from the old Pacific Coast narrow gauge railway. The San Luis Model Railroad club also has a decent sized layout depicting Paso to Surf in the mid 1950s; If you ever in the area I highly recommend dropping by.
