Must be a true double planet. From the outside they probably both look egg shaped, with the tips at the closest point, pulled towards each other by gravity.

Actually, realistically depictions of what is scientifically possible are often stranger then fantasy. My favorite sci-fi of my 14th year was βRocheWorldβ, and the fantastic art that accompanied it. This picture could be from the explorersβ perspective as they moved to the apex.
