Kind of-- more like where the gold starts fading into a the background, and looks kind of like it's made out of many dots?

Interesting! That area is where the render is incomplete, eventually it will all fill in solid given enough time. It is an interesting effect! Here is the original test with alot of that dusty gold look [link]

Cool! I was thinking the picture would have just the gold though. Try keeping the gold wispy an incomplete, because that's what makes it looks like dust.
