Description
Some time later, Anya opened her eyes again. Once again, the overhead light above her caused her to squint. But what was different this time was that Anya had regained more strength. However, she still did not know where she was."Vhere...vhere am I?"
Not long after she said this, Anya heard footsteps approaching from her right side. She felt something gentle placed on her shoulders and saw a face hovering over her.
"Anya," the face said.
Once her eyes adjusted to the light, Anya recognized the person hovering over her.
"Pavel," Anya said.
Suddenly, memories of what had happened flooded Anya's mind. She bolted upright.
"Zhe Klingons! Zhe armada! Vhat happened?!?!"
"Anya, take eet easy!" Pavel said, gripping her shoulders and lying her back down as she continued to breathe heavily in fear.
"Pavel--"
"Anya, jou need to rest!" Pavel said, holding her down.
"But--"
"Anya, PLEASE re--"
"VHAT HAPPENED, PAVEL?!?!" Anya shouted, grabbing his shoulders and shaking him. "I'm not resting anymore until I know vhat happened!"
"Relax, Anya," Pavel said, gradually lying her back down. "Eweryzhing's all right. Zhe Klingons are gone."
"How so?" Anya said in between heavy breaths. "Ve couldn't hawe destroyed zhem on our--"
"Ve didn't," Pavel said, gently moving a few strands of Anya's hair away from her eyes. "Vhen Keptin Kirk told Keptin Antaan zhat zhere vere tribbles on zhe planet, him and his armada left een terror."
Hearing Pavel's words, Anya's breathing became more relaxed.
"So my idea--"
Pavel nodded.
"Jes, Anya. Eet vorked."
Once the news took root in her brain, Anya bolted upright again, flung her arms around Pavel's shoulders and pressed herself close to him.
Surprised at first, Pavel gently wrapped his arms around Anya's back and gently rested his chin on her right shoulder.
"Oh for the love of...KNOCK IT OFF, YOU TWO!!!!" a voice shouted.
The teenagers quickly separated and turned to find a very annoyed Doctor McCoy standing nearby.
"Chekov, I told you that you could stay in here on the condition that you didn't get all lovey-dovey with Turetsky when she woke up!"
"Sorry, Doc--"
"Sorry doesn't cut it, Chekov. You know that Turetsky needs to rest," Doctor McCoy said angrily as he approached Anya's bedside with a scanner and a couple of hyposprays. "Now stand back so I can do my job. Turetsky, I need you to lie back down and hold st--"
"Doctor McCoy, I feel fine; jou don't need to--"
"Turetsky, how many times do I have to tell you? I'm the Chief Medical Officer on this ship. That means a few things. I keep track of your health. I tell you what you need and when you need it. And I don't, don't, DON'T want an inquiry from your old man about medical procedure on this ship."
Knowing these facts, Anya lay back down and held still. Doctor McCoy stood over Anya and scanned her, checking the readings on his tricorder. Then he injected Anya with the necessary hyposprays and scanned her again, looking at the readings more closely.
Once he was done, Doctor McCoy turned to Anya and said, "You're well on your way to recovery, Turetsky."
"How long vill I be out of here, doctor?" Anya asked.
"I'd say a week at most," Doctor McCoy said, checking the readings on his tricorder again. "But if you continue to rest, you could be out of here in two, maybe three days at least."
"Glad to know," Anya said as she shifted in bed in an attempt to get more comfortable.
Seeing this, Pavel grabbed a couple of pillows from a nearby bed and propped them up behind Anya's back and head.
"Zhanks, Pavel," Anya said. "Ahhhhhh..." Anya sighed as she rested among the softness of the pillows. "Zhat's better."
"For a week, we thought we'd lost you, Turetsky," Doctor McCoy said. "Glad you pulled through, though. Oh, and that idea of yours saved our necks. You did good, Turetsky. Your old man will be proud of you when he hears of this."
Anya smiled and let a few tears of joy fall from her eyes as she thought of her father.
'Papa, jou vere right all along,' Anya thought. 'One day, my time vould come. And now zhat time has arriwed.'
"Anya, vhat's vrong?" Pavel asked, gently turning her head so that she was looking at him.
"I vas zhinking of my papa," Anya said, drying her eyes. "I vish he could hawe been zhere to see vhat I'we done."
"I'm sure he'd be wery proud, Anya," Pavel said, caressing her cheek. "Jou vere wery brawe up on zhe bridge."
Anya nodded, a stray tear falling from her left eye.
"Come here," Pavel said, wrapping his arms around Anya and bringing her close to him.
"I'm proud of jou. Ve're all proud of jou," Pavel whispered into her right ear.
"Zhank jou, Pavel," Anya said, her voice quivering as a few more tears of joy fell from her eyes.
