He stood empty, like a void in the room's merriment.His parakeet-heart had long since escaped its dusty
rib cage prison, leaving nothing but wind to rattle
gaunt skin.
Shadow puppets cavorting in the back of his
dim eyes had become his only friends.
Heartless, he had forgotten what it meant
to love.

This is a very nice poem. I also really enjoyed the shadow puppet imagery you employed in the second stanza. The first stanza also had some pretty amazing imagery as well. I especially liked the first line:"He stood empty, like a void in the room's merriment."
