Well in total start to finish was maybe around 2 months, but it was a lot of on off work. I would say it working on it full-time, its about 2-3 weeks

This is partly a common misconception. As the TF2 story goes this was medic's first medigun and a prototype (the front clear-ish bit is reminiscent of a blender). As seen in Meet the Medic this medigun did uber but afterwards broke. So Medic made the modern stock medigun and fixed up the quick-fix to operate in a different capacity.

Also, if ya need toggle switches in red or black there is a surplus store here i can send ya some images of what i picked up. They are something like a dollar per switch.
