Barnaby adjusted his grip on Marshall for the third time, hefting his dead weight higher up on his hips.

“So flame boy-”

“Fire Prince.”

“-what exactly are your intentions toward Fiona. And keep in mind that I don't like your attitude, so your answer had better be good.” Cake the cat asked, her tail flickering ominously back and forth.

The Fire Prince looked a little bewildered. The question had been sudden, as had Cake's lengthening to fit herself in the prince's face. It was their first outing as a group and the first time Barnaby could remember seeing Fiona and the Prince holding hands, so the questioning wasn't entirely out of nowhere. He could remember a time when similar questions had been sent his way, by an equally protective cat.

“W-well,” the Prince began, “seeing as Fiona possesses the element in opposition to my own-”

“I really don't, Prince.”

“-it is only logical that our union,” he continued, seeming absolutely certain of himself and smiling happily at Fiona. “will be heralded as a great joining of two people's!”

Barnaby tried to hide his giggles at Fiona and Cake's stunned faces. It would be unseemly for one prince to laugh at the expense of another. Just as he thought to add his own opinion on the subject, he felt Marshall's arms and legs tighten around him. It was just a brief moment, but Barnaby tightened his grip in return. Must be waking up, he thought as Marshall twitched and moved restlessly against him. He adjusted the umbrella, keeping his friend squarely in its shadow, when he felt Marshall's fingers slide carefully against his stomach. They moved lightly, sending slight shivers down, his spine. Then slowly, Barnaby felt his shirt being pulled up, nimble fingers soon reaching bare skin and splaying themselves wide.

“Marshall?” he asked quietly and felt him hum lightly in return, lips moving across his shoulder and up to his neck. “Um...” He heard Marshall breath in heavily, feeling the air pull over his skin.

“You smell good.”

Soon the addition of teeth scraping over his skin joined Marshall's heavy breathing, his own breathing picking up sympathetically. “W-what?” he stuttered out.

“I just need a little...”

“Wait, what?” He shrieked as Marshall sunk his teeth into his neck.
