Wonder if the reboot they'll have some eps where he's not scolded or attacked. Change the formula once in a while.
Only 3 times does Buttons get relief in the series+Wakko's Wish.
But damn, who leaves their child to a dog who can barely speak(One line in movie) to explain what happened and strapped to a tree. That thing ain't safe.

One of the only cartoon shorts I HATED!Β Buttons would always save Mindy, get cartoon injured all the time, and get blamed that she "escaped" her baby harness.

I always felt bad for him whenever he got in trouble at the end of each Buttons and Mindy cartoon. Β He went through all that trouble to keep Mindy safe, and then the mother blames it all on him. Β At least he finally got rewarded in Wakko's Wish.

I honestly think Mindy and Buttons is more or less Spielbergs desire to expand more on on a Roger Rabbit and Baby Herman more without having Roger or Herman. It's like a indirect spinoff with pretty much the same premise: Character A has to protect Character B but Character A usually winds up getting injured in slapstick ways while Character B is nonchalant about all the danger that surrounds them. Spielberg directed Who Framed Roger Rabbit back in 1988 and through the fun he had with it I think he was inspired to make Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, and Pinky and the Brain.

I think it was based on the character Roger Rabbit more specifically the "Maroon Cartoon" Roger Rabbit. Spielberg is responsible for making both of them.
