Tried a couple of experiments here - increasing the size of the drawing, and two-stage pencilling (blue for general shape, grey for finer detail).

Pros: Increase in detail and potential, the final inked lines are relatively thinner.
Cons: Proportions are slightly out because of drawing at new scale, but that will be eliminated after a few drawings.

I uploaded the pencil version because, frankly, I think it looks rather nice.
