I mostly like this one better in color because you can tell the cats apart a lot easier. background still sucks, but its not about the background anyway.

This is when Starkpath confronts Tigerstripe about his brutal training techniques. she takes Ravenpaw away but Briarpaw is stuck with his mentor.

Tigerstripe had just left the camp with Briarpaw and Ravenpaw. Starkpath leaped into a trot and followed his scent; he was headed to the training hollow of course… All he ever taught them was brutal battle moves. Not today. Not anymore. She burst through the thorn tunnel and hissed his name, “Tigerstripe!”

The dark tom turned from his apprentice; it was clear he was about to lay his claws on Briarpaw’s flank and it made Starkpath’s blood boil. “Starkpath…” he growled her name with contempt, “What do you want? Can’t you see we are training?” The russet she-cat snarled. She caught Ravenpaw in her sight; the black apprentice gazed back with fear and shuttered as if she had been hurt, her green eyes wide. Starkpath was livid, she tore her eyes from the scared apprentice and laid them on Tigerstripe.

“You are not fit to train apprentices!” she roared, “If you lay one claw on him, I will have your pelt!” she added before looking back at Ravenpaw, “Ravenpaw, dear, come here.” She ordered softly. The black she-cat glanced at Tigerstripe and his glare made her freeze.

“She is not your apprentice.” Tigerstripe hissed, “Ravenpaw, stay where you are!”

“She is not yours either.” Starkpath took a step forward in a threatening manner. Briarpaw looked between the two warriors with wide eyes, “Ravenpaw, please come here.” She added softly. The black she-cat tiptoed around Tigerstripe, who glared at her the whole way. Her belly touched the sand as she slinked her way behind Starkpath. Briarpaw made a move to join her…

“You stay!” Tigerstripe spat at the young tom, “You ARE my apprentice and you will do as I say!” he raised his claws to strike Briarpaw and the dusty tom flinched.

“Let him be.” Starkpath growled; her hackles rose higher on her shoulders as she bunched her muscles to leap on him. Tigrestripe must have noticed her intent because he dropped into a defensive crouch.

“Touch me and I will kill him.” He sneered, “You can’t keep them in the nursery, they are apprentices, and I will be alone with Briarpaw at some point.”

“Indigostar will hear of your treachery.” Starkpath snapped.

Tigerstripe laughed, “Yes,” he grinned, “but Briarpaw will still be dead.” He sat up as he knew he had won. Starkpath dared not make a move as long as she was alone. She had been beaten and nothing she did could save Briarpaw. She felt stupid for coming alone, why did she expect less than a fight from Tigerstripe?

“I will see that you are made to step down as his mentor.” She stiffened her body and quivered; she should have brought Ringleg with her… perhaps he was strong enough to make Tigerstripe surrender… She knew that she wasn’t; fighting was never her best subject and the wound on her flank would be a weakness. Halfstar’s cruelty ran deep in ShadowClan still…

“Until then, he is still mine to command.” He smiled triumphantly. Starkpath could talk to Redfur about Ravenpaw’s training; the older tom would listen, she was sure, but Tigerstripe was a different story… Her tail drooped in defeat.

“Come, Ravenpaw,” she soothed as she turned around to leave, one last glance behind her found Briarpaw’s yellow eyes pleading, “Briarpaw…” she gave him a mournful look and said the only thing she could think of: “be strong…”
