Description
I think this is the colouring style that suits my drawings best. Maybe.It's really big because I made it approximately 8 1/2 by 11 inches, like a standard piece of paper, because I needed to print a copy. Just in case you were wondering, which you probably weren't.
I freaking love Raichu, but nobody draws them in a way that appeals to me. :/ It's the ears; some people make them look like they're so detached from the head like the animé does, and it's really creepy. '~';;

I definitely like the shading and the eye-pupils. Many of the people that I know, besides Wesley and another guy, don't really draw eye pupils for any characters often. I think you did a great job on yours!
Keep that stuff up!

I think that's mostly because in the canon designs they aren't there, either. I personally consider the highlights in his eyes to be the pupils (due to a misinterpretation of animé art I made when I was young). But the eyes are the most important part of bringing characters to life (in my opinion), so thank you!

I used to think that the white part of Pikachu's eyes looked like eye-pupils when I was younger, too. I think that the Pokémon Company should have, indeed, made it officially the pupils. I guess that there was a reason why they didn't. Also, have you noticed that the "light" doesn't go away when there is a scene of Pikachu at night? I'm not being sarcastic when I say this, but it is kind of interesting to observe different art styles.

It wasn't just Pokémon - a lot of animé that kids were exposed to back then had highlights appear to be pupils (Sailor Moon immediately comes to mind). I suppose it's so normal in Japanese art that they hadn't even considered the fact that kids this side of the pacific would interpret it that way. That's most likely the reason there are nearly always highlights in character's eyes, too.
I find highlights only disappear completely if
a) the character is dead
b) the character is being possessed
or c), the character is one of those stoic types.

Raichu is such a weird creature. But he is such an epic pokemon either way.

True, he is. I don't even know what they were thinking when they came up with the ears... @_@ And I may be beginning to like Raichu more than Pikachu now, design-wise at least. ^_^;
