What I don't understand is why people go on about the new PokΓ©mon designs looking nothing like PokΓ©mon, and then they go and declare Scrafty as the best thing ever. :/ Kind of hypocritical if you ask me, but they can like it if they want.

I think part of it has to do with what measures up "to the standards" that a lot of the fantards create. Technically, all 649 of them are Pokemon, but through fandom filtration, only 200 actually count, and these are going be Pokemon we're all getting sick of seeing all the time.
To put it this for some of my favorites; For every fan of Ho-Oh, there's some 25 LouWEEgah fans. I've seen more hate/joke art against the Vanillish line than fan art (considering the ice cream cone is probably the best weapon against dragons). Sure, Chandelure is awesome, but there's far less fan art of it than that stupid Hydra they came up with. Of course, almost all of the actual bird Pokemon have little followings. =/
