Description It's done! Finally!

*clears throat* I have gotten multiple comments on earlier sprites of people who say they'd really want to play Psychonauts on GBA/NES/ any other retro console, and each time my answer was that my sort of sprites wouldn't work well on those consoles. They just don't fit in a retro-type game.
But I thought it was an intriguing idea.

This is the obvious result: a screenshot of the glorious Psychonauts Advance (est. release date: probably never).
The original size is also 160X240 pixels, the resolution of a GBA's screen.

I'm also thinking of doing a spritesheet for this Razputin ( as a Raz sheet was requested earlier by .

Be sure to comment with your thoughts on PN Advanced, sprites, or...whatever thoughts at all. I like comments yaknow.

EDIT: I reuploaded it, but bigger, so y'all can see the little details.

Love the game and your sprite tributes make me smile. You've captured every detail and made Β the original design recognizable in a style that is both nostalgic and remarkable in a fun and interesting way.

One day and hopefully soon, I'll sit down and draw fan art....if I can come up with ideas that are decent enough to work from.

Oh, wow. Really, looking back on this I'd say I've improved a bunch, so this looks a little off to me now... But thanks for commenting even now, I'm really glad you're so fond of them. I guess I didn't really end up making too many of these in the end, though...
But if I'd make any more now, they'd be pretty different, using the new and updated sprites I made of the characters.

Yeah, I'm certain you will! I'd try to give you an interesting idea, but I don't actually know your strong suits, so I guess I'll just let you figure that one out for yourself.

I know the feeling...being a creative mind myself and constantly striving to improve. I also have a couple of very old pieces in my gallery that are faved quite frequently, and think they don't compare in quality to anything I'm currently doing, haha. And improvement just happens as one continues to learn. Oddly enough, I'm blind to this in other people when I see their work, unless I take a closer look at their gallery as a whole.
Anyway, you're very welcome. I personally think your old work is good enough to be enjoyed, Β but should you ever feel motivated to do more Psychonauts-related fan work (sprites or drawings), I'm sure I'd like it just as much, if not more.

My taste in fan art is very canon-oriented, that's all. I'd only ask for it to be respectfully in tune with the spirit of the original, and the characters shouldn't be someone else than the way they appear in the game. I'll try to scratch together something- I think I have enough for a sketch dump.

Well, at the moment I haven't been doing much, but just like you I hope I can just sit down and do some brand new Psychonauts fanart sometime soon. I'm way behind on making something to celebrate the sequel's arrival, too...

Okay, that makes sense. Certainly I generally prefer fan representations of characters to be more or less 'accurate' as well. In any case, you have created some very nice things, and I wouldn't want to miss that sketch dump, so I hope you don't mind if I watch you.

Wow, thank you for the interest- it means a lot, and I hope you'll enjoy your stay. I think it will be interesting to see how far I've come with basic shapes and the more technical aspects of drawing, and drawing cartoony characters is an excellent exercise in that regard (besides being plain fun).

There will be at least 2-3 years until the sequel it's out, so I suppose it's still not too late to show off some love. Then, if the sequel is well received, there may be another hype party coming up with another opportunity to join the celebration.

Well, Tim himself estimated the price tag for Psychonauts 2 would be around 18 Million bucks... I'm not so sure a kickstarter could rake in that much cash, but I'd personally donate as much as I could, that's for sure.

I did, at one point, when I got an extra Psychonauts from a Humble Indie Bundle. It sort of glitched out on his Mac though, so I'm not sure if he ever ended up playing it, really...

GreenTengu [2012-09-26 01:54:51 +0000 UTC]

In theory, if someone were to want to make this into an actual game, would you allow them to use some of the sprites you've made? I understand there's not enough sprites for such a thing, but this is all theoretical.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CaptainQuestion In reply to GreenTengu [2012-10-11 16:15:17 +0000 UTC]

Well... in theory, I would probably be delighted by the idea, and then politely tell said hypothetical person I might not be able to animate any sprites, as I haven't had much experience with movement.
And suppose they would solve that problem, then I would probably agree in return for just a little bit of a say in the actual creative process of the game.

...But surely this is all just a theory?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GreenTengu In reply to CaptainQuestion [2012-10-13 01:46:25 +0000 UTC]

Actually, yes it is. See, I can't program for crap, and was just speaking hypothetically (Possibly trying to get someone else who CAN program's attention, and give them the idea. *hint hint wink wink to other commenters*

CaptainQuestion In reply to PsychonautAgent [2012-07-18 08:07:58 +0000 UTC]

Uhh...don't overdo it now...

But yeah, I spent quite a while actually replaying the game so I could make a neat, detailed little sketch of the background in the Lodge.
I made sure to make save files at different points in the story (pre-DanceParty, post-DanceParty, pre-Conspiracy, then on the Lower Floors, then before the Point of No Return) in case I ever want to do something like that again now.

Thanks, PA. You contributed a lot subconsciously.

That's just honestly what happened, mate. I wasn't expecting anything this awesome in my inbox~ And when I stopped choking I just had this big grin on my face. I LOVE this~

... I thought I was the only one who made seperate save files at important moments in the game so I could go back and sketch things... XD

You're welcome, mate~ I don't know what I did, but you're welcome... XD

That reaction alone is seriously worth all the trouble in making it.
More so, it's making me want to start on another one immediately. Pity I don't have time for backgrounds just now.
But I did finish GBA versions of Lili and Vernon yesterday...
