Description
THE SCULPTEDWe were not born, we were built.
We are not an affront, but you
Call us a vile blasphemy.
We are the Guardians, and
We are the Keepers. And you
Have trod upon our bodies.
You burned our worlds and people,
Turned our roads and homes to ash.
Our cities are destroyed, our
Fields are now as glass; for what?
You worship those before you,
You say they showed you the Way.
But you strike us down as rats.
Have you not seen? We are That.
We guard those relics you hold
Dear, we watch that which they left.
Did we know? Of course not, but
Such is our duty; we fought
'Gainst you, against your weapons.
We fought and we lost. We could
Have shed light on your darkness,
But now we have been undone.
How is that for blasphemy?
Without us, you will not know
What is going on until
It is too late.

:3 I like it, and I like the experimentation. Reminds me of the time I got the urge to respond to every forum post in Shakespearean meter...
"Have you not seen? We are That." is a nice line.

One thing I considered doing (and that I'm still not sure if I would do if given the chance) was to end the poem one word short, leaving it hanging; but in the end I decided to stay true to the experiment. But if I somehow am able to revise it into something more digestible for the greater public at a later date, I might do that.
But I'm glad you enjoyed it! I was dubious about that line myself, but once I had the whole thing finished and written out in front of me I decided it could stay.
