Aw, I love it! I'm one of the few people who actually thinks reindeer are MUCH cuter than "regular" deer. I'd love to see an "anatomically correct" Rudolph movie.

the one without antlers is the dad? because males lose their antlers in winter.
and the light one with antlers is the mom because females shed them in summer? right?
I know that the mother has lighter fur in the movie than Rudolph and Donner, so the antlered
one has got to be the mother right?

I wonder if the special would still be popular today if they were anatomically correct. I know that the animators and artists model other deer instead of actual reindeer/caribou.

I think real reindeer/caribou are considered to be too "ugly" to sell, especially before Frozen came out. Deer that look like Bambi are "cuter" and probably considered easier to sell. Probably easily to model/draw too, because they're skinnier with less fur.

My guess was that they're on a schedule and budget and just stuck with what they and the public were most familiar with. That happens all the time in film and animation. But being less cute was a factor too.
