Description
I want to strike a balance between keeping people posted and only having good updates to report. Let me know if you want more news or less news.Working on:
- Admin functions like banning. (2016/03/16)
- Signups (2016/03/23)
Here's what works:
- Page loads, including all the image thumbnails and tags.
- Signing in.
- Tag filtering, so you can see the "boards" you want.
- Image uploads, tag creation, and thumbnail generation. I need to mess with this more to make it a better experience.
- Signing out.
- Reply page expansion. (Finished 2016/03/04)
- Deleting post functions. (Finished 2016/03/08)
- Viewing full size. (Mostly done 2016/03/13) (It just swaps out the image with the full-sized version when you click. Sometimes it's huge like xbox.)
- Signups. Important. (Mostly done 2016/03/23. Can create new users, but the confirmation e-mail isn't sent out so you can't post.)
- Admin Bans (In progress 2016/03/16. Finished but untested. Needs a UI component.)
What has to be done:
- URL control. Right now you can't really open multiple threads or different boards in different tabs, and I think that's important.
- Tag voting and adding. This works on the back, but there's no UI for it. This is important for communal filtering.
- Convenience thing like link highlighting and post id linking.
- LOTS of UI and style improvements. I need to make the header a real header and let people save their multi-page views. Also, the style is terrible.
- There's a bug where sometimes the pictures don't appear unless you hit "reload".
I'm pleased that the site is as small as it is right now. The whole thing is under 15kb uncompressed. For comparison, this image is 250kb. I'm sure it will get bigger eventually.
One thing that I think is really important that's not working right now: opening replies in new tabs. When I browse 4chan, I'll usually right click on a thread and open it in a new window. I'm not sure how I'll do that right now.
I'm almost ready to take up someone on the CSS offer. Will probably have to deploy to a public server first.

Would having to register and sign in mean that certain IP addresses like phones would no longer be banned in a wide sweep? I had that problem since my phone fell into the banned IP range.

We might still need a spamfilter and a way to verify signups.

4chan (lowercase c btw) actually has a system where you can click on the image to resize it in-window or click on the filename next to it to open the image in a new window, which is a best-of-both-worlds kind of thing. Something like that would probably be the best option.

keep it in-window, also post delete helps too.
voting though is a big no-go. It'll allow trolls to downvote into oblivion anything that catches their attention.

Tag voting, not image voting. If someone tags an image "belly", people can upvote it if it matches or downvote it if it doesn't.

Still though, it opens itself to the inevitable possibility of trolls taking advantage of it.
