Description

After watching the show What If…? on Disney+, it got me thinking about some ideas I had about Disney’s very own what ifs. This has been done it book for with Twisted Tales, but I never like the sound of some of their premises and thought “they could have done way better”. So, if Disney Animation ever decide to adapt Twisted Tales like they adapted Marvel’s What If…? Then here’s some ideas that they could use they would make it way better.

10: What if Héctor Rivera was never murdered? (Coco)

In Coco, we are led to believe that Ernesto de la Cruz is Miguel’s great-great grandfather when it is actually Héctor Rivera after Ernesto poisoned him and stole his music. But what if Ernesto’s murder attempt had failed and Héctor had come home to his wife and child? Héctor’s death is what caused the main conflict of the movie and if it had never happened then Miguel’s identity crisis and character would have never happened. But even if Héctor hadn’t been murdered, what would he have done with his fame? He wasn’t as bothered about fame as Ernesto was so would he be as much as a celebrity as him? And with him making more money, would it lead his family down a different path? Would Mamá Coco meet someone else? Would Miguel still be born? What would Héctor legacy be?

9: What if Hiro had killed Robert Callaghan? (Big Hero 6)

When the main villain of Big Hero 6 “Robert Callaghan’s” identity was revealed, Hiro’s attitude suddenly changed and he became an attempted murderer, fortunately, his friends where there to stop him before he could a full-blown murderer. But what if Robert Callaghan didn’t get away in time a Baymax had killed him on the stop? What would this do to Hiro? How would it effect the others seeing their best friend become a cold-blooded killer? What would it to Baymax, knowing he just broke his set protocol? What would Hiro do after this? What if he decided to the same thing to every other criminal in San Fransokyo like Mr Yama? The hole framework of the movie could have been turn completely on its head.

8: What if the Toys had let Lots-o die (Toy Story 3)

By far my least favourite bit in Toy Story 3 is the part where Lots-o leaves the gang to die, but this only happened because the gang where too busy trying to help him despite the fact that it was his fault that they where in that situation in the first place. So, what if the other toy realised this earlier and decided to leave Lots-o to his fate like he deserves? Woody definitely wouldn’t do this but the other toys being to traumatise by what Lots-o did to them would be mor than willing to let that monster burin. Woody would probably be so angry at the others that he would probably leave them and go off on his own, this would definitely change the events of Toy Story 4 without Woody there, especially with new group having to live with what they did and how it has torn them apart.

7: What If Kida had be brought to the surface? (Atlantis: The Lost Empire)

If you’re a fan of steampunk, then just imagine what a pre-World War 1 world would do with the power of Atlantis. This could go a number of ways, ether with could be a really beak story where all the main characters are killed by Commander Rourke and him men and the story could focused of how humanity obituaries itself, using Kida, or, it could be about how Rourke gets away and now the team have to go back to the surface world in order to get Kida back and stop her for being used for war, just imagine the direct to DVD sequel Atlantis: Milo’s Return except good. You could also explore how the military would weaponize the Atlantean power and create some cool steampunk machinery.

6: What if Boo stayed in the Monster world? (Monsters Inc)

One of the saddest moments in all of Pixar history is the moment Sully as to say goodbye to Boo, yes, they are reunited at the very end, but that’s not what this is about. In this reality, Boo (for one reason or another) stays in the monster world and grows up being raised by Sully and Mike. This would raise some questions, how would Mike and Sully keep all this a secret? Would Mike and Sully have to keep it a secret? would the monster world change with the knowledge of a human wondering around like the rest of them? What would Boo be like if she grew up surrounded by nothing but monster? What would happen if she ever returned to the human world and meet her real parents? And how would her parents react after finally seeing there daughter again after all these years and find out where she’s been?

5: What If Pinocchio never became a real boy? (Pinocchio)

Unlike most boys, Pinocchio was a wooden puppet, so that means he wouldn’t have aged. So, if Pinocchio never became a real boy, he would have stayed a little boy forever, meaning he would have to see everyone around him grow old and die, especially his father Geppetto. This would be a bit like Highlander except with a little wooden boy. But what would Pinocchio do with the rest of his time of earth? Where would he go? What would be do? It would be interesting to see how someone would handle this idea.

4: What If Scar Didn’t Kill Mufasa? (The Lion King)

This has been done by not in this way before, my idea isn’t “What if Mufasa had survived his fall?” but rather “What if Scar’s plan had failed and Mufasa was still alive?”. What would Scar do afterwards? What would Mufasa’s relationship with his son be like afterwards? What would Scar’s next plan be? Or another possibility would be if Mufasa banished Scar before he could murder him and Mufasa was there all throw Sima’s childhood, how would his change Sima? Would he become more arrogant like in the song “I Can’t Wait To Be King”? Would this lead to Sima becoming just like Scar and running the pride lands?

3: What If the Beast’s curse was never broken? (Beauty and the Beast)

This was the biggest plot point of the movie, Bella had to fall in love with the Beast before the last rose petal of the magic rose fell. So, the obvious question is “What if Belle fell in love with the Beast “after” the last rose petal of the magic rose fell and Beast stayed the Beast forever?”. Bella and the Beast would still be together, but she would have to live with is monsteras nature for the rest of her life and the castle staff would have to live as inanimate objects for the rest of “there” lives. If they have children, how would they live with a monster as a father? Would the rest of the village except the Beast for who he really is? Would the rest of the world now about the Beast? What would happen to the royal family that the Beast belongs to? And if the Beast became king, who would the county fell about having an actual monster in power? This raises too many questions that all need to be answered?

2: What If Tarzan’s parents were never killed? (Tarzan)

When we first see Tarzan’s parents, we know almost nothing about them, who they were, what they were doing there, if they know anything about the jungle, could they survive (and don’t you dare bring up the Frozen sibling theory) so we don’t know what kind of parent they were before they were killed. So, what if Tarzan’s parents managed to fend off Sabor’s attack and the two manged to raise their son to adulthood in the heart of Africa? Would Tarzan still be friends with the animals? What would be do with both the knowledge of the human world and the animal world? Would the three befriend the local natives of Africa? and if Tarzan’s parent where around, how would they react to seeing Clayton’s expedition arrive in the jungle? In the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel, it turns out that Tarzan and Clayton are actually cousins, meaning that Tarzans father is Clayton’s Uncle, sow how would Clayton feel about seeing his uncle living in the jungle? How would this change Clayton’s motivations? This could have changed the hole narrative of the Tarzan mythos and changed the entire context of the story.

1: What If Syndrome’s Plan didn’t backfire? (The Incredibles)

All Buddy Pine wanted was to be Superhero like his former ideal Mr Incredible and if his evil plan to pretend to save Metroville from a robot attack, hadn’t backfired, then that might have happened. It always confused me why Syndrome didn’t programme the Omnidroid not to attack his creature despite the fact that his hole plan relied of it not attacking him, so what if he had programmed it not to attack him and his plan went exactly has intended? There would be a few factors to consider, first, what would Syndrome do about the Super-Hero registration act and how would he deal with the Incredibles afterwards? We never find out what phase two of his plan was so there’s still a chance his plan might have failed. And even if you got what he wanted, what would he have done when more supers started showing like the ones from Incredibles 2? What would he do if he found out that Mirage was secretly helping Mr Incredible and his family? And how would Evelyn Deavor feel about Syndrome showing up and what would she do about it? Would Winston Deavor support him and if he did, how would be help him? What would he have done when the Underminer showed up? How would Winston Deavor feel if he ever found out about what Syndrome did and how he killed all the Supers of the past? Everything about the Incredibles 2 could have go completely differently this Syndrome still knocking around gaining attention and could be really back news for the Incredibles family with him wanting them out of the picture.
