What was the plan if Childe didn't release Osial? What if he decided to release a different god or multiple ones at the same time? What if he decided not to release any god at all and instead used the Signil of Permission to sneak an army into Jueyun Karst and beat up all the adeptus into revealing the location of Rex Lapis? If he believes he could best Rex Lapis in a fight why not the other adeptus as well.
We all know both Zhongli and Signora manipulated the events so that Childe would release Osial but he could has easily ruined the plan by doing something else. They can't really blame him for ruining it as well since Childe was only told that he had get Morax Gnosis not the whole he had to fail in order to complete a contract he wasn't aware of.
