Description This was taken in the Wasdale Valley, from the footpath just past the Youth Hostel on the side of Wastwater Lake. The evening sun beginning to set to the left out of view casting its warm light onto the Screes to the right turning them golden before my eyes. Great Gable centre stage in the distance being carressed by the clouds passing through. I find it amazing that viewpoints like this are rarely shot. Further up the lake there was a herd of tripods, shutters clicking at Britains favourite view, yet here I was alone and for a while the world was my own. Sometimes I wonder if its only photographers and artists that see the true beauty of nature before them as whilst taking this shot, lots of vehicles could be seen on the lane out of shot to the left, heading out of the valley. Their day is done, finished walking and enjoying the countryside, yet for most of the visitors, the most they see of the magic of a golden hour is viewed solely through their rear view mirrors! If only they realised exactly what they were missing out on, camera or no camera, its a sight to behold, one that lives on in the mind for ever.

Thank you so much for viewing this work. Should you be drawn to the landscape of the Wasdale valley, there are many more shots of it in my gallery. Also I would encourage you to view my favourites, and journals as there is a wealth of photographic talent in both, crying out to be seen by all.

That is like a painting. Truly. I looked at it closely and thought, "What a wonderful painting or digital artpiece!" and then I looked at the category and ... I was just rather stunned. Β

I appreciated your description under that photo as well. Sometimes I feel that being a photographer is a "double-edged sword." It cuts both ways. My wife gets frustrated with me always having to have a camera in my face because she believes it takes me away from just being in the moment. She has a point, because when you are focused on all the things photographers are thinking about to get the "money shot," you are technically not in the moment itself. The pay-off comes when you go back and process that "moment" and see that you have indeed captured it in a worthy sort of way. I often see things when I'm processing a photo that I didn't see when I was taking the photo. Β My eye is always looking for the photo in a scene and because of that I like to believe I see some beauty that others don't or might not notice. I think that is what we photographers share in common, (if not always the same skills.) I don't know ... but digital photography has become a real passion for me in the last five years in particular. I admire your work.

Thanks for the reply.Β

It is magical as Edie called it feel like there should be Hobbits around...and your comments about those who only see the tourist views are so spot on the way less traveled is so often more beautiful...
