Description
Something I started last night, and finished today. For the first time I visioned something in my head, wanted to draw it, and just did. Almost lost the entire file because of Painter, sometimes that program is such a pain in the ass. I'm really proud of this though, although if there is anything that could be improved please let me know. Thank you!8-ish hours photoshop/Painter IX
This painting is now available for sale on zazzle!: [link]

this is absolutely gorgeous... i've been looking at it for several minutes trying to think of what the storyline might be behind this image. very nicely done!

It's the story of my clockgirl, who danced in her clocktower to make the gears move, and brought her town to life. She wanted to leave her tower and be with her people, but when she did so her world stopped moving. In this "alternate reality" of my original piece she couldn't understand what was happening, and her world crumbled around her, and she stopped moving as well. Hundreds of years later after her world was forgotten, a boy stumbles upon her... perhaps bringing her back to life.
In my thesis animation, she will figure out it is her that is the life of the town, and make the sacrifice to go back into the tower forever, but she does get a gift for it (a balloon, the reason she left in the first place... the village was celebrating)
thank you for the comment as well, I'm glad it made you think. I'm very proud of this piece myself.

I could never tell you what to improve. I am no one and my art isn't that great, so if I'd give you advice it would be kind of an insult.
This is incredible, amazing art, breath taking and it's so interesting.
It keeps your eyes focused on everything and all by it's value, not because of it's sharpening or it's blur.
I love the colors used and it's just lovely!

aw thank you so much. I don't agree on people who aren't "that great" being able to critique. If you see something that's wrong, you have every right to point it out. I get a lot of useful critique from everyone, doesn't matter their talent.

Well, if it's incredibly obvious I would try to point it out. But I clearly don't see anything wrong with it. It's very beautiful and inspiring. And since to me it's like... wow, than I have no right and I don't need to point anything out.
If I saw any error, I would tell you, but only an error that would bother me very much!
Still amazing!

I am interested in a tutorial as i have a hard time working with photoshop in a painterly style and would love to learn how you use it
This is a beautiful piece and I just love how it's so free, like it really did just come to you, and went from hand to paper so easily. I enjoy this and envy you at teh same time. Great job!

Heh, well unfortunately I can't do the tut anymore for this piece, I lost the psd file last week when I was reformatting my computer. I actually use Painter X for most of my work, and its much easier to get this style if you use it. I'll do a tut on my next piece, and I'll let you know when I put it up.

I will have to try either corel painter or painter x next time!

I love it and it looks like it took alot longer than 8 hours to do. I'm glad that painter didn't lose the file, it'd have been such a waste. There is so much complexity in this it amazes me.
Consider me a fan.

It looks wonderful. I've been staring at it for a couple of mins and I couldn't put my finger on something. Could be more detailed, but I like those sloppy lines. ^^
I was now looking at her left leg and I *think* the pose could be more natural. Her torso should be slightly bent over (considering her leg is so high). Or you could just lower her leg...
I think I'm not making any sense. *sigh*
It's difficult to critic anatomy since she's not even human.
You're right to be proud of this piece. And I'm curious to see your workflow!

Thanks for such an insightful comment. I think this may be a piece I make more refined later, but since the full size is twice this one, when I zoomed out from workin at 100 percent it looked neat to me, lol. I actually got the pose from reference, but I did change it a lot so it was more stylized, maybe the anatomy got wonky during that. If I saved enough stages (haven't looked yet) then I will most likely put a tut together. Thanks again!

Wow I really like it. And she does look like she has been left and forgotten for a long time A tutorial sounds awesome, but only if you're not too busy. I've been trying to learn how to digital paint in painter and photoshop.
