“Everyone is necessarily the hero of their own life story.”

"Antagonists in fiction have taken many, many forms over the years. Some villains made their mark by challenging the hero’s, and by extension, the audience’s, ideals, such as Tohru Adachi and The Joker. Other villains are beloved for their personalities, carrying themselves in a way that you can’t help but respect them, such as Darth Vader and Raoh. Others still are remembered for the sheer fact that they wholeheartedly embrace and delve into their evil, such as Rugal Bernstein and Yuuki Terumi.

But what about the villains that can’t be considered villains? Those individuals who commit terrible acts, but they do them for sympathetic reasons? They’re not heroes by any stretch of the imaginations, but can they really be called evil, either? I’ve always had a soft spot for antagonists of this type, because in a way, they reflect the way the world is. The world isn’t divided into purely black or white, and I can appreciate when stories reflect that. And few characters I know reflect that grey and grey morality than Kirumi Tojo, Magneto, and Funny Valentine. These three characters have committed some heinous actions in their own series, whether it be trying to kill several innocents in order to escape from a prison, becoming a terrorist and attempting to take over the world on multiple occasions, or seeking an unlimited power and not caring who dies in the process. I will be the first to admit that these characters are far from good people. However, despite this, they can’t really be called outright evil either. They had their own reasons for doing the crimes they did. They needed to protect those that they serve. Kirumi needed to escape the Killing Game in order to save Japan from an unknown national disaster. Magneto lived through several atrocities due to both his Jewish and mutant heritage, and saw humanity as a threat that could possibly attempt a new holocaust on mutants. Funny Valentine knew that if another country took the Holy Corpse Parts, then there was a good chance that they might be used against America. Their intentions were noble. Their actions were not.

It’s this moral ambiguity that I love to see within antagonists. It makes them feel more sympathetic, more real. At times, you can even find yourself rooting for these people, because their own intentions and dreams are ones that ultimately can be relatable. We all have something we want to fight for or to protect, and these three are the same."

And like similar comms before it, the buyer wanted me to write my thoughts on the characters and drawing them. So I'll do my best here!

I have never played Danganronpa in my life, my only exposure to it is maybe one or two episodes of a Lets Play for the first game, and the first volume of the Danganronpa manga. Hell I'm not even 100% sure how many games in the series there are, so there's not a whole lot I can say about Kirumi Tojo. Drawing her was probably the most complicated of any of these characters, but not too painful either! In fact she was still pretty fun to draw and color. Ever notice how pale these characters are without shading?

Now this one I have some experience, keyword being some. Magneto is badass but overall I've never been huge enough on the X-Men line of comics (and animation, and movies, and etc) to be considered an in depth expert of characters from Wolverine to Magneto. But I know enough to say Magneto's still radical, especially in design. The Color Red is awesome, mix it with some vaguely purple-ish blues and put it on a badass with the broken Magnet Powers, and personality wise (With what little I know) he's admirable even if his goals require a whole lot of people getting kill-ified.

Okay this one I definitely know, all rise for the 23rd President of the United States of America! Funny, Mother FUCKIN, Valentine! I love me some god damn Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, so with time I was quick to reach Part 7: Steel Ball Run to witness the glory of some Horse Riding Lads, and this bodacious and totes gnarly president! So rad he somehow got the american flag scarred on his back during the war. With a Kickass Stand (That's hard to draw), and charisma combined with motivation make ya almost root for him. And hey, who WOULDN'T wanna collect the dismembered corpse of Jesu- I mean the Holy Saint, yeah, totally not Jesus. Not 100% good person, but I'm like, 30% sure that out of the three characters his goal involved the least amount of direct murder, or at least planned murder (Probably wrong on that, it's been awhile.)

All I can really say is job well fucking done, my man! I love all the little details in this piece, from the classic pink blood from Danganronpa, the amber waves of pain grain, and the wrinkles in Magneto's face. I really do think this was money well spent.
