Description
Battle Brothers of the 2nd Mercadian Crusade, Black Templars Chapter. Fearless, courageous, merciless. The Will of the Emperor shall be done.
Imperator VULT!
28mm Resin multipart kits from Forge World.
Encased in The MkIII ‘Iron’ Armour.
Equipped with Phobos pattern bolters, melta guns and missile launchers.
'The MkIII ‘Iron’ Armour is a variant of the previous ‘Crusade’ pattern adapted with additional armour plates to the front, as well as a reinforced helmet faceplate and strengthened vambraces for the savage firefights of fleet-based boarding actions. This extra armour turns an already resilient Marine into an almost unstoppable juggernaut within the cramped confines of a ship...' - Forge World.
Each left shoulder pad is emblazoned with the crusade marking. Scripture and prayers of piety are inscribed upon the right pads.
These were good fun kits to assemble They have a very steampunk look to them, a bit of movement range and look
pretty intimidating I think. I gave them a lot of weathering layers and battle grime, dulling down the recesses of armour where such things accumulate on crusades.
Apologies for the photo quality - I admit I am still no competent photographer.

Damn good call sir!
I watched that film numerous times whilst building and painting this army.
Beautiful soundtrack, I rank it up there with Basil Pouldouris original Conan score.

What weathering media are you using? I love the effect on these and on the predator I saw yesterday.

I use standard inks and washes to effect weathering. There are a lot of layers used. It starts with a little zenithal highlighting across the whole model. Afterwards the base armour is painted a flat granite grey then iron metallics are on different panels. Each area, including the metallics is then brought down with many alternating washes of different toned inks. Finally the miniatures darkest shadows are blacklined/defined once more underneath to add volume to the effect.

What sort of inks do you use for those washes? And what do you mean by "base armour"?

Base armour means the 'black' panelling, not the metallic accents etc. I personally used citadel and vallejo, both make ranges of good acrylics and are quality brands with premade washes too. You can then mix hues for yourself and keep in small spare pots for a project if needed. Worth also investing in is good glaze mediums and also winsor & newton flow improver, useful products for thinning down. You can also try using other brand inks and paints, whatever works for the artist best is the best brand for them I believe.

Cheers, Carcharadon. I've just got some Citadel Lahmia Medium, as I happened to see it the other day. I've not found an excuse to try it, yet, but will be sure to get around to it.

Thanks, it's not a great photo, but there are lots of layers of weathering and such. Grim, Dark, like 40k should be hehe
