Description
With great sadness I have to report that Jeffery Cotton died suddenly a few weeks ago. This came as a great shock, as in the time I had known him he had become a friend as well as a client. Obviously, as a result of this there is unlikely to be any further work on this project, but this picture is and will remain one of my favourite pieces of work. This is a piece of work that I have been commissioned to do for the cover of a forthcoming book by the American author Jeffery Cotton. He originally approached me about purchasing the rights for my earlier picture “The Edge” [link] ,as it closely resembles a city in the novel. Unfortunately it was already being used (by me ) as the inside cover of “The Mad Monk and The Mountain” album, So I suggested that I do him another one on the same subject, and this is the result.
In the process, we had an excellent time, liaising by e-mail, and over Skype. Jeff was extremely supportive of my efforts, and his input certainly improved the quality of the picture, as well as keeping my enthusiasm at a high level. The picture closely follows his brief, and we are both pleased with the result. Here is a link to his website, [link] , which will give further info, and a taster of his new novel, “War of The Unwanted”, the first part of “The Eruseq Chronicles”. Here also is a link to a slideshow he put together, showing the development of the picture.

Wonderful evocation. Sad to hear the man who commissioned this passed away, may this be a piece to remember him by.

A beautiful landscape and a rather unusual place for a city. I hop the eocks will be able to weather erosion for some time.

Two answers,
1 The rock is a magically imbued variation of granite known as Garanisotheodor, which resists the ravages of time by setting up a perpetual loop in which it cyclically renews itself,(the author's preferred version).
2 You can do what you like in a fantasy picture!

I just had a look through your gallery, there is some fine work there, nice to see so much art done the old fashioned way.(I gave that up because it was too messy, and I made too many mistakes that I couldn't fix.

This started life as a 3d model and finished as a painting, you may have done this already, but if not, follow the link to Jeffery Cotton's site and you can see a slide show he made showing the picture's development.

I think living in the nearest houses might be a little noisy for comfort, and damp.
