Description This is a make-up request for Sorry for spilling coffee on the other Of Emmy Rossum.

I just used a mech. pencil, except for the hair and pupils, where I also used a 7B. No blending stump or tissue, either!

The reference was really low-quality, and when I printed it the shadows and everything came out very messed up. Like, it was prinitng in black and white, but then decided to switch to blue (?!) And there were little lines and everything all over it...So for the shading I really just depended on knowing where the light's coming from and the shape of the face and all that...

I won't even get into how hard it was to scan this accursed thing. (My scanner died, my grandpa's is stupid, etc., etc., etc....)

Materials:
Mechanical pencil
Matboard (lol, I know)
Kneaded/regular eraser
7B

Time: Three days, about six hours total.

Critique is really appreciated I can change almost as much as I want with this one; just not the hair. Keep in mind that the scan is not of the best quality. I don't know why it's so rough/bumpy looking...

I hope you like this, ~injest-the-shiny !

There are sometimes articles here featuring young and amazing artist, and I'm yet wondering why I haven't seen your work there >_> Your art is just absouelty amazing, especially your shading. The texture of the hair is "bouncy" which is very diffifcult to do...overall, amazing drawing!

Quick question: how do you do the shading so well? I'm having difficulties doing this but you just make it look easy!

Wow.!! I thought this was a photo before I saw the category -gapes- This is very good!

Ok..critique, There is this black lines or something on her neck, oh is that you signature and date? I think that would be better if you moved it somewhere else, because at first I just thought it was some weird lines on her neck that dont belong.

The right eye thats only a little in the pic looks a little strange, the left eye has very defineed eyelashes but the right one you can see any at all?

The backround, I cant really tell what you drew? Im guessing its a chair or something? Maybe make the backround a bit easier to tell what it is.

&finally I agree with angelus-tenabrae about the nose, because you can only see one nostril, in looks like her nose is too much to the right for the overall position of her face.

overall, awesome drawing though ^^

great perspective. face is perfect. only thing (very, very minor!) is the hair looks a bit flat in the back. though i can't really give much tips on hair (since i suck at it! XD) but maybe if you just added a few stray hairs on the outline portion. okay that's it!

it's great, I love it... I'll blame the scanner for the low contrast.
My only critique/thought is that the feet/background looks a bit flat, like it doesn't fade into the distance. The shading and light on the face is excellent, so perhaps a bit more work on the background would be nice; though not too much! you don't want to 'over'work it and distract from the main subject
great drawing.

I CANNOT believe your 14! Your like a prodigy. It's mind boggling! I could say unreal or excellent or unbelievable but all those petty words fall short. I'm blown away by the calibre of this. You make me feel bed cuz your so much better than me and i'm nearly 10 years older than you. You must have been drawing in the womb. Anyways, you've become my favourite artist IN THE WORLD. No lie. Insane

this is fantastic, I know you asked for critisium, but i'm finding it really hard.... maybe all I can see if possibly put a border on, or trial with borders, you can make then so that it's a bigger version of your picture, and unfocused, and then have your image in the middle, they look very effective if you want to try one of them....

i really don't know what to say, I think you've mastered something i've never been able to, I've been drawing since I was 7 (10 years ago) and i'm not that good... you've done brilliantly well... congrats, you should be proud

Exzentrizitat [2007-08-17 02:17:06 +0000 UTC]

This one is far superior in comparison to the other! Now how is it that you feel there wasn't enough detail, look at that hair, it's amazing, well done The face also has more 3 dimensional quality to it & the expression is lovely. Stain? What is this stain of which you speak? Fear not for it is not apparent, note: in the future don't even mention such things unless the viewer notices them.

The only problem with this one seems to be the foot. Knowingly it's significantly smaller to depict the distance...and the face is much closer & therefore should appear larger...but still the foot seems 'off'. Perhaps it should be further away & the same size, or just a tad larger in it's orig. place?

No eyes here seem faded. If they are it certainly is not as obvious as in this one------>Click

Excellent work. Hope this advice has some positive impact. And thanks for sharing again

Angelus-Tenebrae [2007-08-16 21:19:06 +0000 UTC]

I know you said to be as critical as I want, but this is actually a nice piece. But for the critiquing, I think the only thing that bothers me is about the nose. I think it looks funny because I'm probably supposed to be seeing the other nostril from this view, or it could be the way you drew it.

Also, if you want to create a focus, you can blur out the background more so that the foot appears more blurred and we're more focused on the face.
