Description This is the opening DPS for my new bookie-wook 'The Silence Seeker'. Can you spot a couple of cameos in there? some of them are personal jokes.

On the left we have The Doctor and Martha from Doctor Who.

On the far right we have Cary Grant on a mobile.

The two workmen are a nod to Laurel and Hardy.

The shop on the left is the name of my own local newsagent.

The city skyline is Los Angeles but the cars and Routemaster bus and roadsigns are all British.

The work van and mini digger are the ones that were outside my own house digging up the road when I was doing this image.

The old man walking his dog on the left are also actual locals.

The office building has my own company name Pearce Oakley Illustration (POI).

The bus sign shows my girlfriend's bra size... Kidding. You'll notice throughout my work the numbers 4 and 8 show continuously. They feature 3 times each in this one image alone. Why the numbers 4 & 8? Well. That'll have to wait for another time.

Aw, no. I like Chester as it is. Too nice a little city to have Hollyweird jammed in there.

What a great shot! It's a great joy to see people put real passion into their work, and those type of little easter eggs.

This is the stuff I enjoy. Picture books. I can never get enough of these jobs. They are why I went into the trade to start off with. I always get carried away with them.

WOW! The only word for it. Really truly, superb. great layout, great colours, really feels alive, like it could start moving at any moment.

Are the numbers like in Lost? 4 8 15 16 23 42? hehe

CarlPearce In reply to Fievel-the-Mouse [2010-04-09 23:32:18 +0000 UTC]

Nah. 4 was my lucky number as a kid and 8 is my lucky number now. And most things in my life, for one reason or antoher, seem to revolve around them numbers.

Cheers for the comments and compliments, bud.

Ooh that's spooky. I never had any lucky numbers, maybe that's why I suck so bad

Hey, it's my pleasure, thanks for the great stuff!

How long have you been doing these?

CarlPearce In reply to citizen17 [2009-02-28 12:52:15 +0000 UTC]

Since I graduated in 2004. I've had quite a few books released but not all of them show on Amazon because some are educational contracts for schools and collages only.

Illustration and illustration for children's publishing at the North Wales School of Art and Design. Cracking course due to the fact that we were tutored by actively working illustrators.

At least you've had the chance to draw. I haven't in a while. Well I've been trying to finish something during my free moments...for weeks now.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CarlPearce In reply to citizen17 [2009-03-04 10:48:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but this educational work saps your soul a bit. It gets to the point where you just don't want to draw. Illustrators, eh? Whores of the art world, as we used to say in uni.

citizen17 In reply to CarlPearce [2009-03-04 18:47:19 +0000 UTC]

I guess it's because you're doomed to drawing what other people want?
