Danni Lavender knew that every heist had its hiccups, so she always came prepared. She climbed the exclusive neighborhood's wall without any trouble, beat the security cameras, dodged the rent a cops and broke into the home of novelist Nettie Crowdus. The safe was brilliantly hidden behind a painting. Danni was tickling out its combination when Ms. Crowdus suddenly came home early.

It was a hiccup, but Danni had brought remedies called rope and duct tape. Horrified and indignant Ms. Crowdus tried putting up a fight, but the strength that let Danni scale mountains quickly persuaded her to cooperate. She soon had the glamourous blond bound and gagged on the couch. Minutes later, the safe was officially cracked.

The wads of cash her client had promised were waiting, but the real prize was a red leather journal sporting the big label "My Secret Diary." Danni sighed to herself and thought of her dimwitted client. No wonder the rich lady let her sorted past fall into Crowdus's hands!

Danni remembered how the film star pleaded with her to recover the lost diary, crying over and over about how Crowdus could use it as fodder for her next tell-all, career-destroying book. Crowdus growled through her gag as Danni claimed her prize and cracked its pages.

"Shut up. I could leave you tied to a tree outside. And in your panties. Would you like that?" Danni inquired.

Crowdus plainly didn't like that idea at all. She sullenly composed herself.

Danni flipped through the pages. One entry titled "A Night in Rio" quickly caught her eyes. She read the passage and felt a grin burst from her mouth. Holy Freaking Cow!

"Damn...and she was only 17?! And she did that with him?! And her?! Gawd, that's disgusting!" Danni read more and realized that she really did have moral standards, after all.

"My Secret Diary" was a pure blackmail fodder, but Danni has sworn to deliver it. A reputation for honesty--rare among thieves--attracted clients willing to pay big for her special services. Unlike other burglars, Danni took "orders" from people who wanted certain pieces of jewelry, art, or incriminating documents.

Danni eagerly packed up the precious journal and the cash. She liked to read before going to bed, and she knew what she was reading tonight!
